Is Your Cat One Big Kitty? #HillsPet

Is your cat pleasingly plump, portly or pudgy? There is a growing weight epidemic in our pets here in the US, with 55% of cats considered overweight. In fact, according to the Banfield Pet Hospital's State of Pet Health, over the last five years the number of overweight cats has increased by an astonishing 90%!!! Recognizing that your pet has a problem is the first step, but then what?

Anyone who has ever tried to help their cat lose weight know it's extremely hard. After all, how do you get a cat to exercise? They aren't going to play if they don't feel like playing! Or they get sneaky and bat their toys around while they're laying down! Trying to control portions and cutting back on treats is just as hard for pet parents. How do you say no to those eyes when they're begging you for just one more little snack? They don't understand that depriving them of food is for their own good.

I think everyone can identify with the poor cat owner struggling to help her cat lose weight in this adorable video, One Big Kitty:

I'm extremely lucky with Truffles. She is not food motivated at all. She only eats when she's hungry, and she stops eating as soon as she's satisfied. She is a total treat junkie, though, so that's something I'm going to have to monitor because I want her to always remain sleek and svelte. Tara, on the other hand, was addicted to food. She was overweight the day I adopted her and try as I might, she was never able to shed the pounds, and her health suffered because of it.

What would you say if I told you there was a new food on the market that could transform your pet's weight simply by changing WHAT you feed, not HOW you feed? Hill’s® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution is clinically proven nutrition that activates your pet's metabolism to burn fat and regulate appetite. Pets lose weight while at the same time still feel full and satisfied. The product line includes wet food, dry food, even treats, making it easy to achieve weight loss success without depriving your pet of a thing.

Does it work? An at-home feeding study was recently conducted with over 300 overweight pets. Without strict protocols or precise measuring, 88% of the pets lost weight in just 2 months in the comfort of their own homes, and 8 out of 10 pet parents said they would recommend the Hill’s Prescription Diet Metabolic Weight products to others. As if that wasn't enough, 10 pet bloggers are on their way to the vet this month for authorization to start feeding the Hill’s Prescription Diet Metabolic Advanced Weight Formula, and they will be sharing their journey with us!

Good info. Poor Tara. She reminds me of Autumn aka Plumpy. TW has been rationing my food but I’m not fat.

Also... one thing I learned is sometimes there are other reasons why can't don't lose weight. My cat turns out has Acromegaly which is a tumor that shoots out too much growth hormone. It is really under diagnosed so people should ask to have their cats tested for it. http://catsdiabetes.blogspot.com/2013/08/acromegaly-in-cats.html
My cat does get the treats you have pictured.. he loves them!!! He can't be on that cat food though because the Acromegaly has caused him to be diabetic so he is on the Prescription diabetic food. Great post. Too many people don't realize how bad being overweight can be for a cat.

Thanks for sharing this info. We seem to be okay in the weight department. The mom watches what we eat so we don't get pudgy.

I'm a really good weight, accordin' to my doctor. Peep #1 sometimes wonders if I'm a little thing. I keep telllin' her she is free to offer me more snacks.

But those two marmie brothers of mine... They could do with this special diet food, for sure!

Our dog is reaching that age (8) where they start mentioning senior. Plus, as a beagle, it's very easy for her weight to go up if she gets into things she shouldn't! Thanks for the info and chance to win this quality food.
