Book Review/Giveaway: The Santa Claws Bandit by Alannah Rogers

From the publisher: Imagine Beatrice Young's surprise when she's shopping for Christmas presents with her three cats ... and Santa appears armed with a gun and makes off with a sack full of toys!

The sixty-two-year old amateur sleuth and Cozy Cat Cafe owner had better get to the bottom of this crazy case, and quickly, because Santa's hitting up stores all over town ... and depositing his stash on the lawns of needy kids.

With her crime-solving feline crew in tow, Beatrice tracks down the renegade Santa—all while trying to hold together a disastrous charity Christmas play and prepare the cafe for the holiday season. But she'd better be crafty, because this Santa definitely doesn't want to be caught!

A mystery series starring a trio of crime-solving kitties, set at the Cozy Cat Cafe in my little neck of the woods, New England...someone care to tell me exactly why it's taken me so long to discover these books???

The Santa Claws Bandit is the fifth book in the series that stars Beatrice Young and her cats Petunia, Hamish, and Lucky, who go everywhere with her including Christmas shopping! Just when Beatrice finds the purr-fect toy for her ex-husband's grandchildren, a bandit dressed as Santa enters the store and snatches it from her! What else is a desperate shopper to do but hunt that dirty Santa down?

I loved this fun short Christmas story, and the subplot involving a play production of A Christmas Carol with hilarious results including substituting children's roles with the cats. The mystery isn't terribly complex, as the story focuses primarily on Beatrice's life and her relationship with her ex which takes a surprising turn in the end.

I'm definitely going back to read the previous books in the series. A boxed set of all 5 books will be released on Christmas day...just in time to load up all those new e-readers!
