Crafty Christmas With Mudpie Fur

I am officially the least crafty person you will ever meet, but every now and then I happen upon a project that I'm pretty sure I can handle. Last Christmas our friends at My Brown Newfies posted instructions for a DIY Heart Keepsake Ornament using a plain ornament that can be opened up and filled with your pet's fur.

My first thought was, "I can do that!"

My second thought was, "I wish I had one of those ornaments for all my cats that now spend Christmas at the Bridge."

It's never too late to start a tradition though so I immediately started gathering Mudpie fur in a sandwich bag each time I brushed her. It didn't take long at all before I had enough, and then I proceeded to simplify the project even more. I found an ornament for $1 at AC Moore and wrote Mudpie's name on it using a silver sharpie!

I think it turned out really pretty, especially with the lights shining on it, and I love that (hopefully many, many, many years from now), when Mudpie is no longer with me, a part of her will still be watching over me from the Christmas tree.

I think that is a totally awesome craft project - and something my human could do too! Unfortunately, Binga and I fail miserably at it, though - it would take forever for either of us to get enough fur together. The only one of us that would generate enough fur would be Boodie (who could fill up three or four ornaments all by herself in just one grooming session!).

I love this idea! I'm like you and now wish that I had done this with my furry angels. Like you said, though, it's never too late to start a new tradition. Now, excuse me while I go collect some fur.

Nice idea. We need to save up some fur first.

I really like that idea! Your ornament looks great on the tree, Mudpie! I think Mom needs to make an ornaments like that. She has small tufts in little baggies from the kitties that came before me and has started to collect some of my furrs. She also loves making crafts. Hugs! -Valentine (& Mom) of Noir Kitty Mews

Golly, we've got bags of loose fur...I still haven't vacuumed since Chuck went to The Rainbow Bridge, and now Da Boyz are furring everything up too...

What a cute idea! We'd have enough fur to fill hundreds of ornaments :) We may have to try it, with our yellow lab, the white fur may look like snow!

What a creative idea! You could even put a bit of glitter in the ornament and shake it around a bit so that the glitter clings to the fur, making it sparkle and shine (I can't help but use glitter every chance I get).

What a cool idea! The mom is going to try that with us...if she can get enough fur off of us in time. :)

What a super great idea. I bet TW can even do that. Lord knows she has enough of my furs.
