Appreciate the Moments Photo Challenge - Winter

Meows from Mudpie!

Today we're hopping into a brand new photo challenge for 2018 hosted by our friends at Dog Mom Days and The Everyday Dog Mom. On the first Friday of each month pet bloggers will be asked to post a photo that fits that month's theme.

January's challenge, appropriately enough, is winter. You may have noticed that a good section of the US has been faced with an arctic blast, and here in Vermont we've been right in the thick of it. Overnight lows on Saturday hit 20 below - that's the actual temperature, not the wind chill - beating the old record of 19 below set in 1923! Super cold temps don't really bother us that much because it just gives us more opportunities to cuddle, but our hearts hurt to think about all the animals forced to face the fury of mother nature all alone.

The pictures I chose for today were taken just a couple days before Christmas when we had a beautiful, fluffy snowfall. Mommy decided to be cute and bring winter inside to me in the form of a pile of fresh white stuff on a paper plate. I was not amused. I prefer to appreciate winter from the comfort of my beloved Santa blankie.

Get it off!!! Get it off!!!

Then things got even worse when she decided to sprinkle a little of the snow on me...and a flake landed near my bottom!!! Not funny, Mommy. Not funny at all.

MOL, humans are weird, Mudpie! That sounds like something my human would do - well, she actually took me out to see the snow one time we were in Vancouver. I much preferred going back indoors, even with a sweater on!

For most kitties, snow is a nightmare. We love it when cat bro Bert darts out into the snow. He comes right back and gets busy cleaning himself up. No running away from home issues in the winter!

We haven't had the snow, but it is been really cold. I pretty much refuse to go out in the cold - if Rosie gets to stay inside so do I (I am part cat). Looks like you have the right idea staying all snuggly warm on your blanket.

Mudpie, I just can't believe your mommy sprinkled snow on you! Webster tried to investigate snow once by sticking his paws in it just outside the back door, but at that point he decided he had it pretty good as an indoor-only kitty. Hope it starts to warm up for you soon! :)

Must we bring winter indoors? Mom was just being mean.

Too cute, Mudpie! Yes, winter is better left outdoors. :)

What a fun photo challenge! You sure look mighty cute with your platter of snow, Mudpie. Though it's finally warming up (to 30°F, that is), we recently had some near record lows, though not as low as your -20°F (brrrr!). I was going to take Astrid on an early morning walk on Saturday, but when I realized it was -14°F, I decided that just wasn't going to happen. And it also makes us feel so sad to think of all the furbabies living outside in the cold. We set food out for them and purr and pray for them every day.

She brought some snow inside, and then sprinkled some on you, Mudpie?!? What was she thinking? All of the snow can go away, not that I like cold better, but snow is such a hassle!

She put snow on you? Doesn't your human know that snow is WET?

You are such a cutie Mudpie. Maybe she should sprinkle catnip on the snow :)

that is so sweet that your mom did that for you! Frodo makes so many escape attempts that he gets plenty of snow to smell without my help!

Mudpie, sometimes it’s fun to run and jump in the snow. But even us snow kitties were indoors this past weeks! You’re rightly horrified, snow on your bottom?! How could she?!

Wow! Your mom brought it inside for you? That’s pawsome! We watch it from our 9th floor window but only a few of us know what it’s really like, because we were rescued off the street and had to live with it...but it’s never THAT cold here in New Jersey! Hope you enjoy the next snowfall without any snowflakes on your pretty coat!

Snow belongs outside, Mudpie, not inside. Tell your mom that. :)

Oh, she brought that white stuff inside, Mudpie? And sprinkled it ON you? Humans are so strange! :D

It has been cold here, too (though at just -13, not as cold as in Vermont). But we, too, worry about the animals and people who are outside...

Hugs!

Whoa! Did you bite her? I don't like it cold cos the heat goes on in here and the humidity drops to about 24% and I start to wheeze. It's not fun.

Mom did the same to me one time. I totally agree with you "Get it off!!! Get if Off!!!" It is very pretty to watch through the window but going out in it is for the D-O-Gs! Tee hee hee! -Valentine (& Mom) of Noir Kitty Mews

It was nice of mom to bring snow inside for you to check out, but sprinkling it on you was going too far! Calling you "snowpie" is kinda cute, tho. ~ Tom

Fun pictures! I'm not sure what our cats would do if they saw snow!
