Meows from Mudpie!
Unfortunately my tushie troubles continued this week so on Wednesday I was hauled out into the freezing cold to the vet.
I've actually lost nearly 2 pounds since November which is really good news, but the vet said it's still not enough. She shaved my bottom and Mommy said she's never heard such language coming out of me as she did at that moment! The vet was shaving, the tech was holding onto me, and Mommy was feeding me a squeezie, but I was still letting it rip! (It's a good thing I don't go outside. Now that it's elebenty below zero I would need to wear undies!)
Mommy was convinced my anal glands were the problem again, but the vet said they didn't appear to be impacted. She gave Mommy some ointment for my red bottom and told her to get some Miralax because she thought I was constipated. She also wanted to do more bloodwork and a fructosamine test to see how well my diabetes was being controlled.
Then Wednesday night I started acting like I might have a UTI! I was peeing small amounts in my litter box, and then even followed Mommy down to the basement and squatted down there! Thursday morning she woke up to two large puddles on the bathroom floor...I wasn't even trying to use my litter box anymore. I'd never done anything like that before. Mommy had some HomeoPet UTI drops leftover from Mo last year, so she started adding those to my squeezies until she heard from the vet.
Friday afternoon the vet emailed with my results - she told Mommy to STOP the insulin because my bloodwork and fructosamine tests were NORMAL! At this time, I'm NOT diabetic! We think my diabetes was caught quickly, so after a couple months of insulin and a diet change to mostly wet food, I appear to be in remission! It may not last, but that's where we are right now. She wants to recheck me in a month, and also do a urinalysis. Mommy started crying.
Unfortunately my bloodwork still shows elevated kidney values so the vet wants me to try a renal diet. Mommy isn't sure how she feels about that because I've just started accepting Fancy Feast after rejecting wet food my whole life. I'll give it a try but Mommy is also researching supplements she can start adding to my food.
So that's the Mudpie Medical Report! Some good news, some not so good news, but Mommy and I will face everything together, just as we always have!
We're joining our friends at The Cat on My Head for the Sunday Selfies blog hop!

My what a week and a lot of personal attention (from the vets) going on. Hopefully everything will resolve, and you can stick to the new food for a while. Or maybe find an option that covers everything.
ReplyDeletePaws crossed the hair grows back quickly, especially as it is chilly out.

Sending lots of healing hugs to Mudpie and mommy!
ReplyDeleteOh Mudpie, we are so sorry that mew had to visit 'that place' - we send oodles of healing purrs to mew and mom!
ReplyDeleteMudpie you and your mommy have been through the ringer with all these doctor visits and you feeling so bad. We're glad about the diabetes of course. Precious has elevated kidney issues also. I have now put her on Iams indoor hairball food. The reason I did is it is only 30% protein in the expensive veterinarian kind is 29% protein. We certainly hope you two get this figured out and are safe during this horrible storm and don't need to go back out for a while.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteMudpie, it is not fun having to go to the vet.
I pray and hope you feel better soon.
Take care, have a wonderful week.
Here's hoping things settle down now, Mudpie.
ReplyDeleteI concur with your meowmy; add something to the food that you like, instead of trying to change it, or maybe make a mixture.
We are purring for you, sweetheart.
Oh sweetie, we're sorry you are having issues again. We hope things get better soon.
ReplyDeleteMudpie ... good news on the diabetes (at least). We hate that you are having so many varied issues. That renal food sucks! Hope you and your mom and the vet can figure out exactly what is happening and get you on track to improved health. Sending lots of purrs and POTP from us and prayers from our mom. Thanks for hopping with us! XOCK, angels Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid & Sawyer, Lisbeth, Calista Jo, Cooper Murphy, Kizmet, Audrey, Raleigh, Gibbs & Tali
ReplyDeletep.s. You look meowvolous!
ReplyDeleteSweetheart, you beautiful girl, thank goodness your diabetes is OVER and done with! The KD...yes, you and your Mommy will have to work on that. I am so sorry you have been though so much. Hugs and smoochies to you
ReplyDeleteYou poor sweet Mudpie and Mom too. I hope the pee problem clears up. We're all sending purrs and prayers your way.
ReplyDeleteMixed news. Good about the diabetes though. My boy Jethro has kidney issues and is on a renal diet. He is 15.5 years old and a pure breed Bengal. He has lost a lot of weight, but still kicking! He was fussy at first and I had to try all kinds of renal foods. Hopefully over there you guys have a great selection of renal foods.
ReplyDeleteI've read that Ipakitine is good to put in their food for renal issues. I've never used it with Jethro though. But reviews are really good.
Sending you lots of purrs, love, belly rubs and hugs from Scotland.
It sounds like you and your mommy and the vet are staying on top of everything. I hope you feel much better soon, especially if you are "stopped up."
ReplyDeleteMudpie, that’s good news about the diabetes. Now we’re purring you can get the UTI and renal issues under control.
ReplyDeleteMudpie, if you won't eat the special renal but like FF wet food, maybe try Astro's Oil for kidney cats in the food. Sienna here took the powdered supplement but you might love the oil. It works well and is worth a try.
ReplyDeleteHurrah for catching the diabetes early!!!!
That sounds like an awful ordeal. I am glad you are no longer diabetic. XO
ReplyDeleteGlad you got some good news.My kitties haven't enjoyed the kidney diets either. Tell Mommy to checkout Royal Canin for variety.
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful news about your diabetes, Mudpie! We are purring and praying the UTI and renal stuff get better, too. XO
ReplyDeleteMudpie, so happy you are off insulin! That makes my day! Praying for the other stuff to go away. Good job with Fancy Feast! Let Mommy keep giving it to you, and hopefully you won't need icky shots again.
ReplyDeleteHi Mudpie!
ReplyDeleteI'll message your Mommy on Facebook, but it's excellent news that your diabetes is in remission, and I hope it stays that way!
As far as kidney food goes......I've not had a cat who actually liked kidney food. I have had a friend who has had luck with the Royal Canin kidney food. A lot of the Weruva foods are low in phosphorus. I will send your Mommy a link to the kidney food list if she wants it.
Sending love and purrs!
Wow, Mudpie, if it isn't one thing then it's another, poor gal. Feel better soon! Good news, though about the diabetes.
ReplyDeleteOh, sweet Mudpie, that was some good news about the diabetes, and we're sure you get the other things undercontrol too. Here are some Healing Pawkisses for you andwe think your mom could use some too. Stay well🐾😽💞
