Tara & Truffles...Forever Loved, Forever Missed

Today marks the 11th anniversary of the day my baby girl Truffles flew off to the bridge, and the 13th anniversary of the day her big sister Tara paved the way before her.

It goes without saying this is the hardest day of the year for me. Comprehending the tragic set of circumstances that took Truffles from me far before her time is something I will always struggle with, and most likely something I will never be able to accept. She deserved so much more from life. And the fact that I lost them both on the same day two years apart makes me wish I could scratch this date right off the calendar.

In honor of my precious girls, please give your own fur babies a little something special today. Maybe an extra hug or kiss, a few more minutes of play or cuddle time, extra treats wouldn't hurt either.

Our time together is so fleeting; their fragile lives all too short. Never miss an opportunity to show them how much they're loved.

Happy 250th Birthday, America!!!

And now our weekly answers for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by 15andmeowing and Four-Legged Furballs!

1. I tend to forget to water my few houseplants. That's probably why they don't live very long! I'm a plant murderer.

2. I celebrate the 4th of July by watching fireworks. I can see them good enough from my living room window :)

3. I was a fan of cats before they became popular. (I couldn't think of anything else here, but cats have definitely grown in popularity in recent years!)

4. I see new tires in my future. My left front tire has had a slow leak for years and I would need to add air a couple times a year. Now even with a portable tire inflator the low tire pressure light won't turn off. The tread isn't looking great either. I guess I can't complain too much, they are nearly 10 years old.

Feline Friday: Threats Work!

Meows from Mudpie!

Before Mommy got up Wednesday morning I did my number twos in the litter box...and let's just say there was a strong resemblance to chocolate pudding.

After she cleaned it up I started making more trips to the litter box, but peeing this time. Mommy counted at least 12 times, and a couple times I'm embarrassed to say I just squatted on the floor.

This same thing happened back in January when I was having some tummy troubles, but Mommy still started to worry I might be developing a UTI. She told me if things didn't improve by early afternoon she was going to contact the vet to see if she could drop off a urine sample. With the holiday weekend coming up she wasn't going to take any chances.

Right around noon I finally settled down and took a long nap in the kitchen, and when I woke up I was perfectly fine! I've pottied normally ever since.

Geez Mommy, you didn't need to threaten me! Take a chill pill!

(Mommy reminded me that the days surrounding July 4th are not the time to tell her to calm down. There's been way too much tragedy in this house around the Independence Day holiday over the years so she's always even more on edge than usual.)

Feline Friday is simple to join. All you have to do is:

Post a picture, drawing, cartoon or video of a cat (They may be silly or cute).

Summer Lovin'

Mommy here!

This is a horrible picture, but such a sweet moment I had to share.

I decided to run my weekly errands yesterday morning so I wouldn't have to go out into the depths of Hell the next few days.

It only took a couple hours, but that's an eternity away from Mudpie, so when I got home I sat on the living room floor to give her lots of kisses. I was pretty worn out so on a whim I decided to lie down on the floor to see what she would do.

She curled up beside me, put her head on my shoulder, and promptly dozed off! She even started snoring!

We stayed that way for probably a half hour, and while my back was breaking on the hard floor, I wouldn't have moved for anything in the world. It's way too hot for us to cuddle the way we do the rest of the year, but we still found a way to be close.

I know most people would probably say the same thing about their pet, but I swear she is the sweetest, most loving cat that ever lived.

1. My summer bucket list includes continued decluttering and housecleaning. Now that Mudpie has taken up residency at the door to soak up some rays I don't have the excuse of her always on my lap so I have to get stuff done!

2. Summers during the 1990s were some of the best summers that I ever had. I changed this prompt a bit but I couldn't choose just one. During that time period I got to travel to many country music concerts in my area.

3. I'm getting ready for Halloween and Christmas by stalking the stores for this year's decor.

4. Any news story about animal abuse immediately makes me livid and horrified.

Squeezie Table Selfie Flops #PetPhotoFails

Meows from Mudpie!

Thank you for joining us for this month's edition of the Pet Photo Fails blog hop!

We've been super lucky with the weather so far this summer. We've had a few hot days, but they've all been followed by a drop in temperature. We've only had to turn the AC on two days! It has been a very unusual June, but it looks like the party's over. They're predicting 90 with high humidity just as July makes its unwelcome arrival. Good thing Summerween and Christmas in July are here!

Both of my bloopers this month were taken from my squeezie table while Mommy was trying to help me snap a selfie. Of course I wasn't about to sit still - she had a squeezie!!!

Those are my bloopers...let's see yours!

Notice Anything Missing? #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

The one white whisker over my left eye disappeared! Mommy noticed it on Thursday when I hopped up on my squeezie table. She got all excited and had to take a picture. I just wanted the squeezie.

Isn't it weird how that whisker keeps popping up and then disappearing? Angel Truffles used to get one white whisker in the same spot too and Mommy would jokingly call it her little devil horn. But I'm 100% angel. Mommy agrees.

1. Let's bring back 9/12 America. It's our wonderful country's 250th birthday and American pride is at an all-time low because of politics. It's really sad.

2. Juneteenth is the new weekend before Christmas. I'm being facetious of course, but I made the mistake of running errands yesterday and the number of people out shopping was absolutely ridiculous!

3. I appreciate that my local area is able to help animals in need. Our shelters adopt out animals so quickly we're able to partner with shelters down south to save even more lives.

4. Taxes, inspections, and politics are my least favorite part about where I live. Sorry, I couldn't narrow it down to just one thing. Our property taxes are one of the highest in the nation, we're one of only 14 states with mandatory annual vehicle inspections (which are supposed to be for safety reasons but only serve to put more money in the pockets of mechanics), and our politics are as far from my personal beliefs as they could possibly be.

A Tail of Two Brave Women

Meows from Mudpie!

We had a little excitement here late Monday night that was traumatic at the time, but now we find it hysterical.

Around 11 each night Mommy fixes herself a cup of a tea and a sweet snack to have while watching the late local news. I have half of a squeezie at the same time.

It all happened really fast but as Mommy walked into the living room from the kitchen she noticed something dark zoom across the rug - a house centipede with elebenty billion legs - and it was racing right towards me!

She dropped her snack and started screaming. I started running from it, stopping every few feet to look behind me to see if it was still following me. Finally I bailed for the kitchen, leaving Mommy to handle the situation alone. Thank Cod the threat was neutralized quickly.

Once I dared to venture back into the living room and Mommy finished consoling me, she couldn't stop laughing. She wishes we had a security camera that could've captured the whole thing for posterity. It might've even made it to America's Funniest Home Videos! Talk about a pair of brave women!

(A few years ago Mommy had a similar encounter with a centipede at the back door while feeding Mo late one night. She was screaming so much while trying to catch it that Grandpa said if our neighbor had her window opened she probably thought Mommy was being murdered!)

So... Hot... #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

It was disgustingly hot here on Thursday and Friday. I had to use the wall to hold my head up. Mommy laughed.

1. I'd like to learn how to play the steel guitar. It's my favorite instrument on classic country songs.

2. Something I tried to make that was an epic fail was lasagna. I'll preface this by saying it only happened once. I've made lasagna many times successfully, but on one particular occasion I clearly wasn't paying attention to what I was doing and after a couple layers of cheese, sauce, and meat I realized I hadn't laid down any noodles!

3. I want to design Halloween and Christmas toys and decor for cats and cat lovers. If only I was crafty.

4. Peppermint mochas are a special treat I get at Christmas.

The Black Cat Detectives by Kit Gray ~ Blog Tour with Character Guest Post and Giveaway

A charming cozy mystery with a delightful twist: The detectives are three kittens with magical powers, determined to solve a most purr-plexing case.

Precocious kittens Bippity, Boppity, and Boop are exceedingly loyal to their human, the twenty-eight-year-old up-and-coming magician Mila. She saved them from starving to death in a dingy Corvin’s Crossing alleyway and has been nothing but loving ever since, even though her own life is in shambles.

So when Mila’s sketchy boyfriend and business manager turns up dead at the end of her big magic show—she’s the prime suspect. With evidence mounting, there’s nothing stopping the sheriff from hauling away Mila to the human pound. Unless the kittens can solve the crime and clear her name.

The kittens will have to use their dubious control over the laws of physics and every whisker of know-how they’ve got to catch the real killer if they want to save their happy home with Mila. This is one meow-stery more tangled than any ball of yarn they’ve encountered yet.

Are You a Dog Person or a Cat Person?

A Self-Scoring Questionnaire

with Bippity MacAllister

Hello there, humans! I’m Bippity, the cleverest kitten you could ever hope to meet. Does it surprise you to know that many humans find themselves in the sad state of not having a single solitary dog or cat to help them be less… well, forgive me, human, but less human-ish. Yours is a strange and limited species, and it’s a wonder you manage without us helping you along.

Honestly, I’m not entirely sure you do.

Regardless, if you’re one of the many bereft humans without a dog or a cat who calls you their own, I’m here to help. I’ve recently come to learn that there are humans who are more suitable to cats, and those more likely to be adopted by a dog. There are even some humans with the potential to be claimed by either or both!

So I’ve devised a brief self-scoring questionnaire to help you determine whether you are a dog person or a cat person. Each answer will tell you where to score your point(s): Column A or column B. If none of the answers to a particular question suit you, just move on. When you’re finished, add up your score in each column and get your results!

At least 6 points in A, less than 4 in B: Cat person!

You are clever, curious, and discerning, and deserve a companion who can match your energy. Adventuring is wonderful, but it’s a thousand times better with your purr partner at your side, so visit your local cat rescue today and give yourself the chance to meet your soulmate!

At least 4 points in B, less than 6 in A: Dog person!

You’re a goof, but that’s okay, because dogs are goofs too. You can waggle and slobber and burp together and do whatever it is dog people do for fun. Brutus says there are lots and lots of dogs who need good homes, so visit a shelter or rescue and tell them all about your ridiculous self so they can help you find an equally ridiculous partner in whatever dogs and dog people get up to.

At least 6 in A and at least 4 in B: Ambi-pet-uous! Both Dogs and Cats!

You’re a bit of an odd one, human. You’re smart and creative, but also not too caught up in being prim. I see great things in your future. I’ve heard rumors of kittens raised with dogs and puppies raised with cats, and how they can become best friends with guidance and care. I do admit, having a dog to ride on like how humans ride horses seems like it could be useful. However, I encourage you to do your research and make sure the fur-family you rescue are going to be happy with the arrangement, too.

Less than 6 in A, less than 4 in B:

Time to consider an aquarium. Though I’m told you’re not supposed to eat the fish, so I’m not clear on the point.

And now our weekly answers for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by 15andmeowing and Four-Legged Furballs!

Mommy's answers:

1. My plans for June include stalking stores for Halloween decor and counting down the days until Christmas in July.

2. Letting Mo go is the bravest thing I have ever done. He's the first cat I've had to make that most heartbreaking decision for. Dad told me after he was surprised I was able to do it.

3. I swear by sucking on an Altoid as a cure for an upset stomach.

Mudpie's answer:

4. As if my ear wasn't bad enough, I've been coughing and sneezing the past couple days too! Stupid allergies! (There was a story on our local news the other night saying that because of a cooler spring pollen season got a late start this year, but now the pollen levels are even higher than usual.)

My Poor Ear #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

I mentioned on Friday that I had to go back to the vet. When I was last there (just 2 weeks ago) some debris in my itchy right ear was taken to look at under a microscope, and bacteria was found, so the vet wanted to see me again.

Waiting in the car. I think I was just here a couple weeks ago, Mommy.

This year Mommy started taking me to a new vet that she just loves, but it's a very small practice and last week they had to close for several days because of a "personal tragedy". We later found out the wonderful vet tech lost her home in a fire in the middle of the night, and all 4 of her pets were killed. Unimaginable.

So once they reopened Mommy made an appointment. Remember how I said I had lost a couple pounds at my last weigh in? Well I gained a little of it back MOL! Must be that rotisserie chicken Mommy got me. But the vet said she is ecstatic that my appetite is so good, because that's not the case for so many CKD kitties.

But my right ear is a mess, to put it mildly. For the past several weeks the "stuff" you see in the above photo has been coming out of my ear. It's hard as a rock. There are days my ear makes me feel just miserable. The vet went through several q-tips trying to clean it out to no avail. She doesn't know if chronic inflammation has caused the ear canal to narrow or if there might be a mass in there. She sent us home with a daily salve to make the ear more comfortable for me, and a cleaner to be used twice a week. Then she wants to see me again in 3 weeks in hopes it gets cleaned out enough for her to see what's going on in there.

No, I was not trying to hack into the vet's computer. I would never.

Of course Mommy had a panic attack hearing the word "mass". This ear has been a problem off and on for the past 3 years and we never considered it a big deal. Our prior vet chalked it up to allergies (which makes sense because I have asthma), so we're hoping and praying it's inflammation that we can manage with medication.

If anyone has experience with this type of thing, please let us know!

1. Finding Mudpie online, even though my heart was still shattered from losing Truffles just a few weeks before is the luckiest thing that ever happened to me.

2. A container of Trader Joe's chocolate mascarpone with Mudpie pee in it (for a urinalysis) is the most unusual item in my refrigerator.

3. My patience is lacking. I always say when God handed out patience I didn't have the patience to stand in line for it!

4. I have more than enough Halloween and Christmas decorations. Yet I look forward to shopping for more every year.

What on Earth??? #PetPhotoFails

Meows from Mudpie!

Thank you for joining us for this month's edition of the Pet Photo Fails blog hop!

Bad news - I have to go back to the vet this afternoon! I was just there 2 weeks ago! Today is about fun bloopers though so I'll fill you in later.

Mommy snapped this picture the other day while I was sunbathing with the door open a crack. It turned out all sorts of wrong! My head looks like it fell out the door and there's a shadow of Mommy's phone on my side. This should've just been deleted.

That's my blooper...let's see yours!
