I'm always on the lookout for interesting kitties to interview for my blog series, and today I'm so excited to be chatting with the Pawsident...Pawnald Trump!!! I met the little guy on Instagram and as soon as I read his story I just knew I needed to get in touch with him. I only hoped that he wouldn't be too busy to speak with one of his constituents! No worries, he couldn't have been more gracious.
Before I present our interview Mommy advised me to remind everyone that this post is about a precious, brave little kitty who is thriving despite suffering horrific injuries. Any unnecessary comments about the current political climate or our President will be swiftly removed.
Welcome Pawnald! Thank you so much for taking some time to chat with me today. Could you start by telling us a little about yourself and how you came to be in the care of Umbrella of Hope?
I came to Umbrella of Hope from the San Jose Animal Shelter. A really really nice ACO (animal control officer) picked me up after I was injured and brought me to the shelter where the super nice vet gave me medicine to help me not hurt so badly. I was likely caught in some sort of fan belt and/or electrocuted and that is how I got hurt so bad. I must have blacked out the details because I cannot remember anything about it!
How is your recovery going now that you're in a wonderful foster home?
How is your recovery going now that you're in a wonderful foster home?
Stupendously! I have my own room and my own playpen and a foster brother dog named Simon the Conqueror although he is not really a conqueror as he lets me boss him around but don't tell him I told you that. There are even some other kitties there and we like to bonk our heads together and sniff each other.
How did you come to be named after our President?
How did you come to be named after our President?
So when the Umbrella of Hope interns learned that I was coming to their rescue, they were told there was a chance that I would lose TWO legs. We knew for sure that I would lose one back leg (it was hurt really bad and stuff -- there are graphic pictures if you are interested). My opposite front leg was broken in three places and it was touch-and-go for a while if I would keep it or if I would become two legged. The interns were googling to try to find an orange character that had two legs (like a muppet or something) but were coming up empty-handed. Then one of them (the cute one) said "the only two legged orange character I can think of is our president".... and well... they laughed and giggled and tittered and guffawed... but it turns out that it was brilliant and that is how I became Pawnald Trump.
What are your ideas on how to make Catmerica great again?
What are your ideas on how to make Catmerica great again?
Well... I have these two friends that my foster mommy brought me. It's Putin the Platypus and Salman the Monkey (my foster mom has lots of pictures of us having important meetings if you want to see any). We make all kinds of plans to make Catmerica great again. I am going to build a huge cat scratcher to keep the dogs out. I plan to ban all treats that don't have catnip. I plan to cat-point all of my friends to important pawsitions in my cat-binet.
How much longer will be it before you're available for adoption and what are you looking for in a forever home?

The vetur... veterrrre.... veterenar... the kitty doctor says that it will probably be 4-6 weeks before they know for sure that my broken leg has healed and can support my kitty...uh Pawsident... activities and it will be around that time that I will be ready to find my furrrever home. It has to be a special one, though, because I am the PawTUS after all.
I've read that a condition of your adoption is that your adorable name stays the same. Do you plan to stay active on social media as an ambassador for specially-abled cats?

I plan to stay active on social media as an ambassador for specially-abled cats for at least the length of my term in office. Of course, that is if I do not get IM-PAW-EACHED.
Aw, that's not gonna happen. Lastly, how can those of us who are many miles away follow your story and assist with anything you might need?
