Run for the Roses #CaturdayArt

Meows from Mudpie, and Happy Derby Day!

Do you plan to watch the Kentucky Derby today? We will be even though Mommy watches horse races with one eye closed. She says NASCAR is her sport of choice because when the drivers crash they aren't destroyed like the poor horses are when they fall. She loves the Triple Crown races though - they're really all she watches - and she's so thankful she's now gotten to see two Triple Crowns in her lifetime. We hope it happens again, but more than anything we just pray for a safe race each year. The horses' lives are more important than any trophy.

For my Caturday Art project this week I decided to wrap myself in a garland of roses just like the winning horse will receive.

And now our weekly answers (all answered by Mommy this week) for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by 15andmeowing and Four-Legged Furballs!

1. I love watching the Triple Crown races but not horse racing in general. Last weekend I watched a documentary called Broken Horses (on FX and Hulu) about the sky high number of horses that died last year at Churchill Downs and beyond. Sadly, the Sport of Kings is all about money and the true stars - the horses - are paying the price.

2. Just because I adore animals doesn't mean I'm a vegetarian. Although I very easily could be. As it is I eat very little meat.

3. Am I the only one who uses Google Maps to drive somewhere unfamiliar before getting in the car? For example, Dad's rehab facility is in a part of my city I've never been to before, so I test drove the route on Google Maps before attempting to by car.

4. I used to buy a lot of canned soup, but then I learned how to make my own.

  1. Dear Mudpie, you are in the pink just like me, mol. We girls do look better in it. Lynn grew up in horse country even though now she's way north. The races were just a regular part of life. She even lived next door to one track in Lexington fur years and could sneak a free peek at the race! We wish the horses good luck. Not the bet placers.

  2. Yes, I do use Google Maps every time I go to another town to see something new, or if I need to find a place to eat once I get there. I plan ahead before I take off to some place new or different rather than risk trying to find it later.

  3. Those are all good answers and beautiful art sweet Mudpie! We hardly ever watch the horse races, the pre-race shows are so long we forget to watch the main event.

  4. We kinda/sorta/almost pay attention ... liking to "choose" in our head who might win, no logic to our choice. And living so close to Pimlico and the annual Preakness can't remain all that uninterested, but in general feel empathy for the horses ... sigh. MUDPIE we love you all rosied-up today, you're the real winner!

  5. Oh our goodness. That is the prettiest Caturday Art ever. You look so pretty. Mom worries about all the horses too, especially after all the ones that died last year. We too hope it is a very safe race

  6. That's such pretty art, Mudpie! The horses are amazing and beautiful, but there's just too much danger for them that we just can't bring ourselves to watch.

  7. Beautiful art. Thank you for participating in the fill-ins. great answers. I feel bad that the horses get worked so hard for the races. That is great that you make your own soup as the canned one is so full of sodium. XO

  8. I was working and could not watch the Derby. I'm sure it was exciting.

Google maps can be great, I like to preview the route when I don't know where I am going, making the roads larger to see which lanes I should be in and such, If I can tell. Sometimes, though, I just use it to tell me which of the several routes I can take to a place is the fastest, or to see if the highway is locked up again with traffic and I should just stay off of it.

  9. Beautiful art, Mudpie!

Mum is very angry about the way horses are treated and she hates horse racing.

  10. Mudpie, that is a most spectacular piece of art. You look absolutely mewtiful.

We don't like horse races and neither does Mummy. We think it is furry cruel to the horsies.

  11. Mudpie, it is so right to see you in a garland of roses.

Your mom and my mom have very similar answers to # 2 and #3. I have nothing against meat. Only I rarely eat it unless out at a restaurant. Just fell out of the habit and I don't eat "heavy" stuff that sticks to the ribs a long time, so to speak. I don't like feeling full for a long time.

  12. Oh, sweet Mudpie, what a lovely picture and artwork💗 Great fill-in answers too. Tell your mommy that Granny does that too. First on the maps and then in the car on route. Works purrfect. We're with you on #2. Extra Pawkisses for the both of you🐾😽💞
