Meows from Mudpie!
I mentioned on Friday that I had to go back to the vet. When I was last there (just 2 weeks ago) some debris in my itchy right ear was taken to look at under a microscope, and bacteria was found, so the vet wanted to see me again.
This year Mommy started taking me to a new vet that she just loves, but it's a very small practice and last week they had to close for several days because of a "personal tragedy". We later found out the wonderful vet tech lost her home in a fire in the middle of the night, and all 4 of her pets were killed. Unimaginable.
So once they reopened Mommy made an appointment. Remember how I said I had lost a couple pounds at my last weigh in? Well I gained a little of it back MOL! Must be that rotisserie chicken Mommy got me. But the vet said she is ecstatic that my appetite is so good, because that's not the case for so many CKD kitties.
But my right ear is a mess, to put it mildly. For the past several weeks the "stuff" you see in the above photo has been coming out of my ear. It's hard as a rock. There are days my ear makes me feel just miserable. The vet went through several q-tips trying to clean it out to no avail. She doesn't know if chronic inflammation has caused the ear canal to narrow or if there might be a mass in there. She sent us home with a daily salve to make the ear more comfortable for me, and a cleaner to be used twice a week. Then she wants to see me again in 3 weeks in hopes it gets cleaned out enough for her to see what's going on in there.
Of course Mommy had a panic attack hearing the word "mass". This ear has been a problem off and on for the past 3 years and we never considered it a big deal. Our prior vet chalked it up to allergies (which makes sense because I have asthma), so we're hoping and praying it's inflammation that we can manage with medication.
If anyone has experience with this type of thing, please let us know!

Whatever the cause, those hard lumps look to have been painful for sure! Hopefully your meds will clear that up quickly and you just need a maintenance set of drops from there on in.
Purrs of support for that lady vet and her lost companions.

So sorry you have these issues, sweet Mudpie. We'll send Healing Pawkisses and purrayers that the salve works and that the ear heals up quickly🙏🏼🐾😽💞
We are so sorry for what happened to the vet tech. Mom says she would not survive if she lost any of us in a fire. Fire is her greatest fear in life ... probably from being from California and being forced to evacuate from a fire as a kid. Anyhoo, has the vet seen a need to culture what is coming out of your ear? It does look like it would be quite painful. We are sending lots of POTP with hopes you will be able to alleviate the pain and the problem. Thanks for hopping with us! Oh dear, we hope your ear is okay sweet Mudpie, it sounds like you have a good Vet though. It's sure sad what happened to the Vet Tech.
Mudpie, are you sure that's not some cosmic ore that is worth millions on the open market?!?
Cannot feel very good, so hoping things turn around for you.
Heartbreaking about the person who lost their home and pets; it's too horrible.
Oh my gosh, the tragedy that happened to that vet tech and her pet family is utterly heartbreaking.
We hope the vet figures out what's going on with your ear, Mudpie, and that it is not so serious in the end. Hugs to you and Mom.
Oh your poor vet! We can’t even imagine having that happen! Sending many purrs to her. And you too, Mudpie, that your ear feels better soon.
That is so sad about your vet. Mass is a scary word. I will be praying you don't have one. Beautiful selfie .XO
Sending some purrayers to your and your Mom, and to the vet for her losses and coming right back to caring for others.
I will be praying for the vet tech.
As for the ear, along with everyone else I am hoping it’s just allergies/inflammation and can be easily treated.
Yikes on all that icky stuff coming out of your ear! Hope this new medicine will help to solve the mystery.
Your poor vet losing not only her home, but her fur children, so very sad.
I'd be heartbroken losing my pets to a fire, poor vet. I hope your ear is okay Mudpie, that sure is a lot of gunk! Haha I bet you know the password to the computer at the vets!
Mudpie, Lynn and I are both sorry we didn't see this post yesterday. We are so sad to hear that you're having such terrible trouble with your ear. When Precious first came to live with us her ears were completely filled with dead debris of mites. The doctor had to flush them over and over again to wash all this stuff out. And then send us home with ear drops. It took a few weeks but it cleared up. We certainly hope that works for you.
Some of us just have waxy ears, but sometimes a flushing uncovers a reason. When I had an ear flushed in 1986, what came out included a mummified firefly that had crawled into my ear, for reasons best known to itself, in 1977.
Fireflies are not my favorite insects. Hadn't been, even before that.
Ewwwweeeee! That stuff is in your ears!?! When Mr Kozmo came to live with Mom (a long long time ago) he had mould in his! It took Mom (and Dr Ruth) almost 2 years to finally get rid of it. Now he actually LIKES getting his ears cleaned...Me, Marvelous, not so much! We are hoping that it softens and leaves you with nice clean ears that don't bug you! Keep being awesome! Marvelous Marv
