Cat Coloring Books Make Purrfect Christmas Gifts (with Giveaway!)

When I was a little girl I was obsessed with coloring. Any visitor to my house, friend or family member, had to color with me. It was a rule.

One Christmas I received a 'Twas the Night Before Christmas coloring book from my aunt and uncle. It was so big I could only work on it at the dining room table. Each year in December I worked on one page and my mom dated it when I was done. I still have that book too...a cherished piece of my childhood filled with so many memories.

Coloring is cool again and more popular than ever...for adults! It's finally being recognized as the amazing stress reliever it is, as well as a creative outlet for children of all ages.

The best news? Cat coloring books are among the most popular, and they make pawsome Christmas gifts! Here's some of our favorite cat coloring books of the year...and there's a giveaway at the end too!

To me, there's nothing much cuter than cats paired with food. (Or cats named after food, hence Mudpie and Truffles.) This book is filled with hysterical images of cats cavorting in the kitchen and pretending to be a variety of gourmet foods: tucked inside a taco, popping out of a pie, chilling with an ice cream cone on their head. It's impossible to thumb through this book without grinning from ear to ear...and feeling a little hungry!

This is no ordinary coloring book. It also features the true "tail" of Instagram's @smokeyfromtheblock and the experiences of author Laura King as a feral cat caretaker in Harlem. The illustrations are beautiful, the story is heartwarming, and the TNR message so incredibly important. The NYC Feral Cat Initiative, a program of the Mayor's Alliance for New York City's Animals will receive a portion of the profits. I love this book so much that I bought a second copy for my Secret Paws this Christmas!

While this book seems to be geared towards children, I think the pictures are intricate enough for adults to enjoy too. Plus it's the perfect size for stocking stuffers and to keep in your purse or glove compartment.

The purrfect book for anyone who loves cats and Christmas. These kitties are helping Santa get ready for the big day!

Each illustration in this book depicts house cats engaging in a mixture of human-like behavior such as enjoying ice cream cones, chilling in front of "Catflix", playing video games and having a pizza party, as well as kitty activities such as playing in laundry baskets, hanging with their human and napping anywhere and everywhere. Many of the drawings are accompanied by popular cat quotes from Charles Dickens, Ernest Hemingway and Garfield creator Jim Davis. Embrace your inner slug...these lazy cats are!

Oskar may be blind, but that doesn't prevent him from going on giant epic adventures with his brother Klaus! A portion of each sale goes directly to Milo's Sanctuary, Inc. for special needs cats.

World-travelling adventure cat KeeKee the calico stars in her very own coloring book, featuring scenes from her award-winning book series.

Giveaway: 3 winners will be chosen to receive a copy of Cooking with Cats! (Open to US and Canadian residents.) To enter simply fill out the Rafflecopter below.

Lazy-Ass Cats Coloring Book Blog Tour

A couple weeks ago I went through a period of about 5 days where I didn't feel like doing a darn thing. I enjoy my job but during that time it was a struggle to get through the day. Even this blog, my passion, didn't motivate me, and I only did what absolutely had to get done.

It wasn't that I was didn't feel well, I just felt blah. I needed something new and different to spark my creative juices that didn't require too much brain power, and that's when I remembered my new coloring book that had recently arrived in the mail: the Lazy-Ass Cats coloring book. Better still, these cats were looking adorable being lazy slugs just like me!

When I was a little girl I was obsessed with coloring. Any visitor to my house, friend or family member, had to color with me. It was a rule. Now that coloring is back and cooler than ever with adults, it's so exciting to see it finally being acknowledged as the therapeutic activity I've always known it to be.

While flipping through the pages of the Lazy-Ass Cats coloring books, it's impossible not to end up with a big smile on your face. Each picture depicts house cats engaging in a mixture of human-like behavior such as enjoying ice cream cones, chilling in front of "Catflix", playing video games and having a pizza party, as well as kitty activities such as playing in laundry baskets, hanging with their human and napping anywhere and everywhere. Many of the drawings are accompanied by popular cat quotes from Charles Dickens, Ernest Hemingway and Garfield creator Jim Davis.

What I love is that each page can be colored in a single setting. It takes longer than a picture out of a child's coloring book, but it's not so intricate that it will take you hours upon hours to complete. Some books on the shelves today are so overwhelmingly detailed and elaborate that just looking at it stresses me out! I'm into instant gratification...give me a page that will guarantee a finished product in a decent amount of time. Maybe that's just more of my laziness, but I'm choosing to embrace it!

Celebrating #NationalColoringBookDay With Two New Books!

Today is National Coloring Book Day, providing us the purr-fect opportunity to tell you about two new coloring books in our collection that we're just crazy about!

I loved the first Color Cats book so I jumped at the chance when asked to review the second because it's practically tailor made for me...cats and books! Each drawing alludes to a fable, rhyme, fairy tale, folktale, poem or book inspired by cats. Some are easy to figure out, others are quite a puzzle. At the back of the book there's a Reference Key with the answers, and each of those drawings is a smaller size also suitable for coloring. In many cases I had to sneak a peek and then was completely blown away by the creative interpretation. These drawings would look amazing hanging in a library!

To view thumbnails of all 25 drawings or download sample pages, please visit colorcats.org.

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I pre-ordered this months in advance because if it's Grumpy Cat-related, I need it! I already had her children's coloring book in my collection, but this one has all the intricacies of an adult coloring book. Whether she's surrounded by mice and cheese, ice cream and cake, or cloudy skies and umbrellas, Grumpy Cat is the star of every drawing in all her grumpy glory.

This book is as must-have for every Tardar Sauce aficionado. Grumpy Cat must not hate coloring too much because her second book, Grumpy Cat Vs. The World, is scheduled to be released on September 21st and I've already pre-ordered my copy!

Have you added any new cat coloring books to your collection lately?
