Hugs, Heartache & Heartfelt Thanks

Thursday was Hug Your Cat Day. We had a prior commitment so are a bit late, but we decided to use a very special picture and turn it into our Caturday Art project by applying Pho.to's Heart Bokeh.

Truffles isn't fond of being picked up and held, but this photo was taken the day I adopted her at Petco. I think it's obvious it was love at first sight.

Special thanks to Ann at Zoolatry for the adorable Hug Your Cat Day graphic:

I also want to send a heartfelt thanks out to our dear friends Julie, Ashton, Pierre & Newton from Sometimes, Cats Herd You. Since we were unable to attend the conference, they sent us a bit of BlogPaws in a box, and we cannot thank them enough for their friendship and generosity.

One last thing I had no intention of writing about today...yesterday afternoon I was driving home from work after stopping for my free donut at Dunkin' Donuts (for National Donut Day). I drove through a quiet neighborhood and had no sooner stopped in the middle of the road for two squirrels to cross, turned a corner and gone a few more yards when a chipmunk came out of nowhere and ran right in front of me. I pulled over and looked back and was devastated to see that I had hit and killed him.

I picked him up, brought him home, and buried the precious little critter. And I've shed a ton of tears. I keep replaying it, trying to remember if I took my eyes off the road for a brief moment, but it just happened so fast. It was a horrible accident but I feel so guilty.

we know what you mean. A birdie (which WE call good eats but mommy snifffles over) ran right into the side of her car the other day. It was so sad....

To the little chipper who crossed the rainbow bridge ~ joining all those who came before: run free, forever! Do not be too sad, Melissa ... he's forever in the sunshine now!
Love you huggin' photo!

I'm so sorry this happened to you, Melissa. The same thing happened to me with a squirrel several years ago. It took a while for me to be able to shake the experience, and like you, I felt sad and guilty. Knowing that it WAS an accident still didn't really help much. Hugs to you!

First...the photo is absolutely precious. Truffles is so adorable as a kitten, and you look super happy. Second, Mom Julie was so nice to share some swag with you, and she sent you the very best thing: THE CATNIP GRINDER! Primo nip. We have heard a humor that the reason Mom hasn't been breaking out our swag is that she plans to send a lot of it to our friends. Phooey! Please join us tomorrow for Sunday Selfies. Sorry about your experience with the chipmunk. Maybe you'll get a chuckle out of how Yoshi and Gatsby did 'National Hug Your Cat Day': http://petectives.net/2015/06/05/national-hug-your-cat-day/

I'm sorry about the chipmunk, Melissa. :( It was an accident, and I know you know that, but it's not your fault. You have such a tender heart, and it is really a beautiful thing. <3

It was nice of them to send you some BlogPaws swag! And the photo of you and Truffles is very sweet. :)

Such a lovely photo of you and Truffles and on the day of her adoption makes it even more special. How wonderful that Julie shared that piece of BP with you! She is a very generous person. I know that there was no way you could have avoided that little chipmunk. I am very sorry. ((hugs))

There probably are no words to help you with your grief, but I hope you are able to get past it

I feel so bad for you, Melissa. I once hit a rabbit and killed it many, many years ago. I was absolutely devastated, but there was nothing I could have done any differently. I do hate that cars end up being predators to these precious, innocent creatures and I am constantly yelling at the squirrels to stop running in the road - I worry about them all the time. I am so, so sorry, but am grateful this little being has been graced with your love and concern.

How kind of Julie to send the blogpaws swag!! That was kind. We do love that picture of you both :)

Mum read about the chipmunk on facebook and she says she would have been in bits too if she's done that. She hit a dog once that came out of nowhere in the dark. She heard it yowl but then it disappeared. She looked and looked for it but never found it. She even reported it to the police. To this day she worries about it and wonders what happened!! xxx
