1. I find people annoying.

2. Any charity that helps animals is a favorite charity of mine.

3. I often have to explain why I love collecting things to others. The majority of my friends and family are minimalists.

4. There's a lot of stress in my life these days.

Random Blurriness #PetPhotoFails

Meows from Mudpie!

Thank you for joining us for this month's edition of the Pet Photo Fails Blog Hop! After a wet, humid summer, we've had a pawsome stretch of weather the past couple weeks. I get to soak up the warm sun in the daytime and curl up on Mommy's nap at night. It's the best of both worlds! Life is good except for my recent vet visit(s)...I'll post an update about that this weekend.

Both of my bloopers this month were taken in the kitchen while I was hanging out with Mommy. They're both super cute, adorable me, but they're also both blurry...

Those are my bloopers! Let's see yours...

#ShineALight for Pet Adoption #RememberMeThursday

Meows from Mudpie!

I was once a shelter cat. Through circumstances we'll never know I ended up at a rescue in western New York, and when I didn't get adopted there I was transferred to Vermont where I found my forever home. I have all the food, toys, and treats I could ever want, warm beds and blankies, and most importantly, a Mommy who worships me.

I was one of the lucky ones, but millions of kitties just like me aren't so lucky. They live without food, warmth, and love, and then either die on the streets or in a shelter because no one ever shows up to adopt them.

I was incredibly fortunate to be sent to a state that for the most part adopts out animals so quickly we're able to partner with shelters down south to save even more lives - but as a nation we still have a long, long way to go. More than 6,000,000 cats and dogs enter animal shelters in the United States each year.
While many pets get to celebrate finding their forever home through the efforts of rescue organizations, there are over 900,000 cats and dogs each year that do not find homes and spend the final moments of their lives in the shelter.

That's why animal-lovers and animal welfare organizations across the globe will unite today with a Remember Me Thursday pet candle-lighting ceremony. The candles, which will be lit on the exact same day across the world, will honor the millions of pets who lost their lives without the benefit of a loving home and shine a light on the millions of healthy pets who are still awaiting adoption. The Remember Me Thursday global awareness campaign encourages individuals to light a candle this day (literally or virtually) and to opt to adopt, reducing the millions of orphan pets euthanized each year.

Orphaned pets can't speak for themselves. Caring humans are their only voice. Spread the word about Remember Me Thursday on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and other social media channels. Don’t forget to use the official hashtags - #RememberMeThursday and #ShineALight - and to share your thoughts and feelings about the importance of pet adoption.

CONTEST: Win life-saving funds or food for a rescue or shelter of your choice! Take a photo of your rescue pet and tag the picture with #RememberMeThursday and #ShineALight on social media to be entered into the challenge!

Mommy and I would like to thank the Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC) for the pawsome blogger kit they sent filled with swag for both of us. We will be using everything with pride!

One Heck of a Weekend #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

Phew, what a weekend it's been! On Friday morning while I was eating breakfast Mommy noticed that my tushie was a little stinky. Thinking I might have a dingleberry down there, she took a comb to try brushing it out. Usually I don't react when she does that, but this time I screamed. She gently started feeling around and noticed a warm, soft spot of skin.

Up on the kitchen counter I went so she could take a better look, and she found a red, swollen lump. She figured right off it was an anal gland issue, but having never had a cat with that problem before, she still kind of freaked out. She called the vet and was able to get me an appointment at the end of the day.

The vet immediately diagnosed my issue as a swollen anal gland, and took me out back to see what she could squeeze out, but I was so impacted she wasn't able to get much of anything. It hurt - Mommy could hear me yell from the other side of the building. The vet said it would likely rupture over the weekend, but if it didn't I would have to have surgery on Tuesday. She gave me antibiotic and anti-inflammatory shots, and pain medication to take home.

Mommy thinks this is one of the prettiest pictures she's ever taken of me.
I agree!!!

Some good news...my weight loss program is working. This spring I was 20.2 pounds, and I'm down to 18.7. I also had my first senior blood work done, and everything was normal. My kidney values are on the high side of normal, but still normal.

By Friday night the spot had gotten SO big, Mommy was sure it was going to rupture overnight, and sure enough, at 8:30 Saturday morning it did...on grandpa's lap! MOL

I'm feeling much better, just really tired and clingy after my ordeal. We're hoping the area heals quickly without further intervention.

The pictures in today's post were taken in the exam room. Our vet practice recently expanded and this particular room they save for kitty patients because of the big, bright, sunny window. I stayed there looking out for the majority of my visit. It was a pawsome distraction from all the indignities I was experiencing.

You know what I find kinda funny? My cute 'lil butt cost Mommy $300!!! (Except that $300 would've been much better spent on squeezies!)

Feline Friday Flashback: Mudpie Goes Psycho

Meows from Mudpie!

Shortly after Mommy adopted me eight years ago she went to the theater to see a special event screening of one of her all-time favorite movies, Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho.

I used to love to play in the bathtub (usually just as Mommy was about to use it), so she started chuckling about how we could re-create Psycho's famous shower scene using a picture she took of me in the tub.

I thought the idea was kind of creepy, but she had fun with it. I can guarantee there were no crazy people with knives in the bathroom with us, but do you notice that I appear to be freaked out by something I'm looking at?

I think Mommy may have been nakey at the time. (Tee hee...)

Feline Friday is simple to join. All you have to do is:

Post a picture, drawing, cartoon or video of a cat (They may be silly or cute).

Mudpie Haz a Sadz...& Then a Happy #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

Yesterday morning Mommy brought our CatLadyBox in from the front step. As soon as she picked it up she could hear something rattling inside - never a good sign. Knowing what was in the box, we had a bad feeling.

Sure enough, one of the two ceramic bowls inside was smashed.

I hopped in the box even before Mommy took everything else out,
but I was very sad over the broken bowl.  And NO, my big butt didn't bust it.
(Mommy is cracking UP over the loose fur on my forehead.)

We contacted the wonderful CatLadyBox peeps and they're going to replace our bowls.
That made us very, very happy.

And now our weekly answers (all answered by Mommy this week) for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by 15andmeowing and Four-Legged Furballs!

1. Figuring out how to settle an estate all by myself is something I accomplished this year.

2. Convincing Dad he should no longer be driving is something I have yet to accomplish. He hasn't driven for a couple years, but now that his vision is 20/20 thanks to cataract surgery he's talking about it again.

3. I would wonder if Mudpie would accept a sibling if I found a kitty in need.

4. Recently, gardening really piqued my interest. I always thought I had a black thumb, but this summer I planted and tended the vegetable garden myself, and ended up with a huge crop of tomatoes and cucumbers! Watching the cucumbers grow has been particularly fun. Yesterday I got a succulent in a Day of the Dead cat planter at Trader Joe's. We'll see how long I can keep that alive.

Thankful for Collecting Friends

Meows from Mudpie!

Mommy has a good friend "across the pond" in the UK who collects Dolly Parton memorabilia. Since a lot of her stuff isn't released there, Mommy has been buying things for him and then ships big boxes of Dolly goodies to him. In exchange, he's been tracking down some rare Conway collectibles for her.

Over the weekend he decided he wanted the Dolly birthday items being sold at Walmart, so on Monday Mommy headed to Wally World to fulfill his wish list.

After she brought it home she spread it all out over the kitchen floor to send him a picture, and as I always do, I plopped down right in the middle of it. Whenever she wants to take a picture of something, I'm right there front and center. But when she specifically wants a picture of me, I'm uncooperative. It's a law in Mudpie-ville.

She sent this picture to her friend because she knew it would make him laugh. She told him not to worry though, that I hadn't damaged anything. Wasn't that rude???

We're thankful for our collecting friends!!!

Greeting Mr. Sun #SundaySelfie

What's that big, shining orb in the sky? Mr. Sun, is it you?

You've been around so little this summer I hardly recognized you.
You sure are bright!
Maybe tone it down a little. I just woke up.

We're joining our friends at The Cat On My Head for the Sunday Selfies blog hop!

1. Spend quality time with your cat every single day.

2. My plans for September include cleaning out a stuffed closet and getting all the trees trimmed around the house.

3. Being an only child has made my life easier.

4. Being an only child really complicates things. I've found it to be both a blessing and a curse, especially in the past year.

Happy Birthday, Mommy!!!

Meows from Mudpie!

Please join me in wishing Mommy a purr-fect birthday today!

Mommy says she misses the days when birthdays were fun and exciting. Our local fairs have always been this time of year so the country concerts she would go to would all be a part of her birthday celebration. Now there's nobody around she even cares to go see.

I can't do anything about that, but I can play this for her today!

Unboxing August's CatLadyBox

The theme of August's CatLadyBox was Totally Cats...here's what was inside!

Featured Cat Lady Artist: My Fairy Realm

Totally Cats Shirt:
Adorable graphics and colors.

Cool Cat Sunglasses:
These are absolutely purrfection! Purple temples with cute cats! Cat Lady written on the front!

Ameowzing Water Bottle:
This design screams '90s, the decade of my teens.
If only it was possible to go back to those days.

Electric Leopard 10-Color Pen:
I had completely forgotten about these pens,
but after seeing one again I remember having these in school SO clearly.

Retro Phone & Pawty Mix Catnip Toys:
Mudpie adores anything with feathers, and the first music I ever bought was on cassette,
so I just might snitch that toy from her!

Waiting for Breakfast #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

Mommy helped me snap my selfie yesterday while I was waiting for my breakfast. Sorry it's a little blurry. I was getting impatient.

This second picture cracks her up. She says it's obvious I'd just rolled out of bed and didn't have my "hair done" yet (aka getting brushed) because you can see so much loose fur on my back.

And now our weekly answers (all answered by Mommy this week) for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by 15andmeowing and Four-Legged Furballs!

1. A non-monetary prize I would like to win is a lifetime supply of squeezies for Mudpie.

2. If I won tickets to just about anything, I would give them away. I used to enjoy concerts, etc., in my "younger days," but now I would just prefer to stay home!

3. I think that those who abuse animals should receive the same treatment. An eye for an eye. And I would gladly volunteer to dole out the punishment.

4. When it comes to telling stories, I don't feel I'm very creative. I find writing non-fiction much easier than fiction.
