January Retro Country Rewind (Part 2) #MewsicMovesMe

It's been a few years since we premiered our mewsic feature "Retro Country Rewind," a look back at favorite songs that hit #1 during that month from 30, 35, 40 plus years ago. In this new year we'll be delving into #1 hits from 1972, 1977, 1982, and so on. Let's take a look at part 2 of our January selections (since we found too many great songs for just one post) for this freebie week in the Mewsic Moves Me blog hop...

Mommy loves how her man is introduced in this clip!

Last Minute #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

This weekend I completely forget to take a selfie, so while I was snuggling on Mommy's lap last night I asked her to turn her phone around and snap away.

Unfortunately we ended up with something that would've been better suited to Friday's blooper reel...

No Truer Statement #CaturdayArt

And now our weekly answers for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by 15andmeowing and Four-Legged Furballs!

1. I get my love of cats from my mom's side of the family. Her grandmother, mother, sister, and aunts were/are all huge cat lovers.

2. It’s a good thing I had jumper cables in the car on Thursday. I went to a store about 10 miles from home and the car battery died in the parking lot thanks to the freezing cold temp and the fact I'm not driving as much now that I'm working from home. Thankfully a nice man parked next to me was happy to give me a jump start. (The battery was brand new last year so Dad put it on the charger overnight and now it seems fine.)

3. My childhood piano recitals required me to muster a lot of courage.

4. My younger self would be proud to know that I now speak up for myself.

Meows from Mudpie!

Thank you for joining us for the very first Pet Photo Fails blog hop of the year!

Waiting Patiently...But For What? #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

I know what you're all thinking..."Mudpie is laying there looking all adorable, waiting for a squeezie."

Is that all you think I ever have on my mind?

I'll have you know I was waiting for Mommy to come put this blankie on her lap so we could cuddle!

Okay, fine. It was squeezie time too.

1. Mudpie's meow is music to my ears.

2. My favorite kind of soup is black bean.

3. If I were going to migrate or hibernate for the winter, I would go to Alaska. I know what you're thinking, "She lives in Vermont, why would she want to go to Alaska?" I've always been intrigued by the mystique of Alaska and would gladly hide away there.

4. I would love to travel if I wasn't such a homebody.

2022 Valentine's Day Gift Ideas for Cats & Cat Moms from Etsy

Meows from Mudpie!

Just like previous years Mommy wasn't planning on a Valentine's Day gift guide but I talked her into it by reminding her of all the cool things we find on Etsy! We've broken our picks down into gifts for cats and gifts for cat moms, so there's a little something for everybody!

We hope you enjoy our picks, and don't forget, if you find something here you like and make a purchase using our affiliate links, I get a little money for my piggy bank so I can buy something special for Mommy on Valentine's Day!

Hissing at USPS

Meows from Mudpie!

Today Mommy and I are giving the US Postal Service a great big HISS.

To begin with, we haven't had a regular mail carrier in our neighborhood for a couple years. Since the last one was transferred it's just been substitute after substitute. Most days we get our mail around dinner time, but many times also we just get skipped. For a period of 10 days around Thanksgiving we received mail exactly TWO days. Mommy was ready to tear her hair out. Even now that the holidays are over, today is Wednesday and we haven't gotten mail since last Thursday. Calls and complaints fall on deaf ears.

Worse still, now it's affecting me. Mommy ordered 2 boxes of squeezies for me from Amazon on January 8th. We're not Prime members so our delivery date was scheduled for the 15th. Sure enough, the box arrived at our local post office at 10AM on the 15th, where it sat ALL weekend until it was finally listed as out for delivery yesterday, but still never came because once again we had no mail delivery. Temps have been frigidly cold for days, often well below zero, and I'm worried about receiving a box of squeezie popsicles.

Meanwhile, Mommy also ordered a box of canned food from Walmart for our neighbor kitty friend who visits, and it arrived 2 days later via FedEx! When we opened the box I immediately curled up on this pile of packing paper which was pawsome, but I'm still hissing at the USPS for holding my squeezies hostage!!!

How's the mail service in your area? Are you experiencing similar difficulties?

Update! Mommy got a message in her Amazon account that even though the package may still arrive, it's so late she could request a refund, which she immediately did. Now if they arrive frozen/ruined, we've already got our money back. And if by some miracle they arrive unscathed...I scored a couple free boxes of squeezies!

Working Girl #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

Mommy has been working from home for 4 weeks now and I am absolutely exhausted! I stay on her lap 75% of the time to snoopervise what she's doing, so we should be getting double pay, right?

I never really knew what Mommy did when she left the house each morning saying she had to earn money to put squeezies on the table, but I don't think I was cut out to be a working girl. My selfie was taken yesterday morning when we woke up and I informed Mommy that it was my day off. Don't I look overworked and underpaid?

Do other kitties have to work to pay for their squeezies? Am I old enough to retire yet?

Sunny But Frosty #CaturdayArt

And now our weekly answers for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by 15andmeowing and Four-Legged Furballs!

1. When I run out of milk, I use powdered creamer as a substitute.

2. I don’t understand why some people don't love animals. It will never make any sense to me, and those people will never have a place in my life.

3. The weekend is the best time to recharge. Not this one though - there's a leaky hose under the kitchen sink and Dad *thinks* he can fix it.

4. It seems like I’m the only one who dislikes seafood. Most people I know view it as a delicacy, but I find most of it rather repulsive.

Cold Classic Country #MewsicMovesMe

Meows from Mudpie!

As we type this it's frigidly cold and about to get even colder. There's a wind chill advisory in effect through tomorrow with predictions of 15 to 25 BELOW ZERO!

Super cold temps don't really bother us that much because it just gives us more opportunities to cuddle, but our hearts hurt to think about all the animals forced to face the fury of mother nature all alone.

Coincidentally, the theme of this week's Mewsic Moves Me blog hop is winter theme songs or band names relating to arctic animals, snow/snowmen, hibernation. Here are our picks, with the usual country twist...

We hope you enjoyed our choices this week!

Fetching #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

My selfie this week looks like many others, taken from the top of a cabinet in our living room, my favorite spot to eat squeezies. (But really, is there a bad spot to eat a squeezie?) I promise I took it on Friday night though.

I think I look rather fetching in it...

1. My focus word for 2022 is serenity. I need to find ways to calm down or I'm going to make myself sick.

2. This year I want to learn more about stress management.

3. I didn't leave the house much during the first week of 2022. And I loved it.

4. In this season of my life, I find myself longing for the past.

Our Horrible Holiday

Meows from Mudpie!

We thought today might be a good day to fill everyone in on what's been going on in our lives.

On December 17th my grandpa (Mommy's dad) ended up in the hospital with a very bad blood infection. He was there for 15 days on IV antibiotics but finally came home on Sunday. He's been through a lot of health issues in the past several years but this is the first time we feared we would lose him. In the first couple days the doctor even told Mommy and my grandma that some tough decisions might need to be made if he didn't show any improvement, but thankfully it never came to that.

Then on December 21st Mommy's boss dropped the very unexpected bomb that he had sold the company. Mommy has worked there for 22 years and this is the second acquisition she's gone through. The first time was a seamless transition, but this time she's not sure yet. The one good thing is this new company is 100% remote, so she's now home with me all day long! BUT she had to clean out her office by December 31st, which was a large undertaking she didn't need on top of everything else that was going on. (All of the pictures in today's post were taken after she brought her monster work computer home. I was fascinated by my reflection on the screen!)

Needless to say, with the exception of my pawsome Secret Paws package, we didn't really have a Christmas at our house this year. It's a good thing we decorate super early because at least we've gotten to enjoy our decorations throughout the season, and Mommy says they just might stay up until spring!

One last thing...as if anyone had any doubts how unforgettable I am, grandpa was extremely confused for several days and one afternoon the doctor was asking him some questions, quizzing him to test his memory. Mommy pulled up a picture of me on her phone and asked if he remembered me. She got an instant smile as he said "of course". He kept mistaking Mommy for his sister, but he knew who *I* was!!!

In the midst of everything Mommy was struck by a quote she read by our friends at the Manx Mnews blog, "I don't like what my clear colored glasses tell me is up ahead. I try to reassure myself with the thing I've repeatedly said, it's not today.

She's extremely concerned about what the future holds on many fronts, but I've promised to take the very best care of her that I can, just as she does of me.

Do You See What I See?

Meows from Mudpie!

In last month's CatLadyBox post, Mommy confessed that she snitched the little catnip Santa hat I got to put on a plush Conway doll she bought on Etsy.

In spite of it being on our bed, I never even noticed it until just a few days ago. So far I've been a good girl and haven't taken back what was sent to ME, but I'm just biding my time.

Here's a better look at the doll (still wearing my catnip Santa hat). He was 100% handmade by a Vermont artisan who lives 15 minutes away from us. Mommy is nuts about him! I love her to pieces but some days I think she's just nuts...

Happy Mew Year 2022

Meows from Mudpie!

Who's ready to bury 2021 in the litter box and move on to 2022? I sure am!

Here's to a new year filled with cuddles, smooches, and squeezies!!!

And now our weekly answers for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by 15andmeowing and Four-Legged Furballs!

1. I had hoped to get organized in 2021 but didn't.

2. A goal I have for 2022 is to eat healthier.

3. I'll be relieved when 2021 ends.

4. I hope 2022 brings better health for my parents.
