Something Doesn't Look Right #PetPhotoFails

Meows from Mudpie!

Thank you for joining us for this month's edition of the Pet Photo Fails Blog Hop! One month of yucky summer down, two more to go...

My fails this month took place just yesterday, when something very stressful occurred.

I'd been blissfully sunbathing by the back door. I woke up and wanted a snack and drink so into the kitchen I went.

I stopped dead in my tracks, because something looked very, very different.

I shook my head in disbelief. Surely I was mistaken.

I turned around slowly and took another peek. I wasn't going crazy.

Everything (my pizza box, record box, scratcher) was GONE!!!

I started to hyperventilate, but Mommy told me to calm down.
She had picked everything up to mop the floor and as soon as it was dry she would put things back the way I'd left them.

Thankfully she was telling the truth but I think I gained a few gray hairs out of the ordeal!

Holding Mommy's Feet Down #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

When it's too hot to cuddle, I enjoy hanging out by (or sometimes on) Mommy's feet so she can't take off on me. It makes us happy to just be near each other. Sometimes I get lucky and score an extra squeezie too ;)

A Mudpie Masterpiece #CaturdayArt

Visit more artsy kitties at Athena's Caturday Art blog hop!

And now our weekly answers for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by 15andmeowing and Four-Legged Furballs!

Mommy's answers:

1. Never underestimate Mudpie when she wants a squeezie. Lately if I take too long she starts swatting things onto the floor to get my attention. If she had to share with a sibling, she'd likely knock them over too!

2. Thunderstorms make me a nervous wreck. The heavy rain, wind, hail, lightning, threat of a power outage...I'm a basket case until it passes.

Mudpie's answers:

3. I need to get a job so that I can afford my squeezie habit. Mommy says the price has gone up AGAIN!

4. I didn't realize how wonderful a forever home would be until I got one. Mommy wishes she knew my circumstances before I ended up at the shelter - if I'd been out on the streets or turned in by a previous owner. I'm such a sweet, innocent little love bug, she can't imagine me homeless and trying to take care of myself, or how anyone could've ever given me up if I did have a home. The truth is, my life began the day she adopted me.

Feline Flashback Friday: Playing Footsie Through the Door

Meows from Mudpie!

Today we have some flashback video for your viewing pleasure!

Mommy and I used to play footsie through the side door quite often, and on this particular day when she returned from cat-sitting she was able to shoot some footage of the game. She ended up capturing a first - I'd never tried to bite her through the door before!

Sadly we haven't been able to play this game lately because even though the back door is my favorite sunbathing spot during the summer, when Mommy goes outside she has to completely lock it because the screen door has a tendency to pop open. It's not a constant problem, but it's happened often enough that it makes Mommy nervous to leave me unattended.

She says she'll never forget the day she walked up the driveway after visiting her neighbor and saw the door partly open. She about had a nervous breakdown until she reached the house and saw me safely inside, peeking out. She was so proud of me, that I hadn't taken advantage of the situation to go on an adventure!

Another Box On the Kitchen Floor #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

You know how I've had a pizza box on the kitchen floor for two years now, and I still hang out on it every single day so Mommy doesn't have the heart to pick it up?

Well, she's been buying some records for a friend in the UK. (It's cheaper for her to buy them and ship them to him all at once, than for him to buy them individually.) Friday night she opened up a package  and laid everything out to send him a picture of what had arrived, and as soon as I saw the record mailer I hopped on board.

Guess what? Nearly 48 hours later it's still on the floor next to the pizza box, and I'm still using it!

MOL...Mommy has to tread very carefully across the kitchen!

1. How anyone can harm an animal is something that boggles my mind.

2. I hope to have a successful veggie garden this summer. I have a very black thumb, but I've planted 2 tomato plants, 4 cherry tomato plants, and 2 cucumber plants. I told dad if I manage to keep everything alive I might need to open a farm stand on the front lawn this fall. He said he isn't worried LOL!

3. I could really use some recommendations for car insurance companies. My current policy has gone up nearly $150 in the past year even though I've made no claims and drive very little.

4. Deciding against a veterinary career wasn't my best idea. I know that technically it's not too late, but in reality it is.

Feline Friday: Techie Mudpie

Meows from Mudpie!

Shortly after Mommy adopted me I took a stroll across her laptop, causing the screen to go blank. She had to use Google to figure out how to undo what I'd done.

I'm in trouble, aren't I?

Well, it happened again. One recent afternoon Mommy was on her laptop and I wanted to cuddle. She set it aside on the couch, I hopped up and draped myself across the laptop. Suddenly everything on the screen went vertical! Thankfully Google helped her to fix the problem.

My interest in technology didn't stop there though. A few nights later while on her lap I draped myself across her iPad. Mommy took screenshots of what I was Googling. I even managed to hit "enter" on a search! She can't quite figure out what I was looking for though.

I still wasn't done!!! I've even been helping Mommy fill out comment forms on some blogs!

Last week I was busy auditioning for work as a backup singer. This week I'm delving deeper into the world of technology. I'm obviously looking for ways to earn extra squeezie money.

Caturday Art

Meows from Mudpie!

We haven't thought to use LunaPic for our Caturday Art projects in ages, but Mommy was using the program for something else this week so we started playing around with it again. We chose a photo of me on the blankie I got in last year's Secret Paws package and applied the Candy effect. It turned out super colorful!

1. I would do anything for my pet(s).

2. The last concert I attended was Toby Keith in 2013.

3. I can’t relax until Mudpie is snoozing on my lap.

4. I knew I needed to take a break from working when mom and dad started requiring full time care. I haven't regretted it for a moment.

Backup Singer or Duet Partner?

Meows from Mudpie!

As we discussed in our Mewsic Moves Me blog post this week, Monday was the 30th anniversary of Mommy's beloved Conway Twitty's passing.

Mommy is co-administrator of a Facebook group dedicated to Conway & Loretta, and she had lots of special tribute posts planned for that day. For one she was trying to record a video using audio from one of the many concerts she has on CD. I was snoopervising (and teasing for a squeezie). Finally I got impatient and meowed. Mommy didn't think I was loud enough to be captured on the video, but when she played it back, there I was.

At first she thought about re-recording the video, but then she decided against it. In fact, she says she's never going to erase the video from her phone because it's so adorable. Me and Conway, the four-legged and two-legged loves of her life, singing a duet. Or maybe I was auditioning for work as a backup singer?

Check it out at 36 seconds in, right after Conway sings no one will ever know...

Unboxing May's CatLadyBox

The theme of May's CatLadyBox was Cat Mom's Day...here's what was inside!

Featured Cat Lady Artist: My Wife's Lovers by Carl Kahler
Cat Magazine called this "the greatest painting of cats."
I had never seen it before but I adore it!

Ask Me About My Cat Shirt:
The graphics on the CLB shirts have been especially lovely lately,
and this one is no exception. I can't wait to be asked about my pride and joy!

Cat Photo Frame:
Now to find the purrfect picture of Mudpie to put in it...

Best Cat Mom Water Bottle:
I'm nuts about this water bottle.
It's slightly larger than my others and my favorite shade of pink!

Paw Print Ink Pad:
How brilliant is this...no ink gets on kitty paws!
I plan to use this on Mudpie as soon as I can.

Happy Hippo Catnip Toy & Catnip Stinky Sock:
So cute! The sock makes me think of Mooch's Little Pink Sock in Mutts,
and the hippo has a sweet little heart on his tush!

Remembering Conway, 30 Years Later #MewsicMovesMe

We all have singers whose music touches us so deeply that when they pass away it feels like a personal loss. For me, that loss occurred 30 years ago today - Saturday morning, June 5, 1993 - when Conway Twitty died of an aortic abdominal aneurysm at only 59.

Even after all these years this is a very difficult day for me. I still remember my 15 year old self sitting on the couch that morning, hearing the news on my ever-present portable radio, thinking it couldn't possibly true. I had tickets to finally see him in concert in September. He couldn't be gone.

Conway released his version of The Rose in January 1983. I would've only been 5 at the time so my best guess is I heard it for the first time a few years later when I really got into country radio. Even at that young age I remember thinking his voice was the most beautiful thing I had ever heard. I guess you could say he captured my heart that day and has had it ever since. That was the beginning of my Conway obsession, 35+ years ago.

It's said that music is the language of the soul, and Conway's voice touches my soul. He was taken from us far, far, far too soon, yet he continues to live on in the hearts of so many, as all truly great artists do.

Thankful But Troubled Thursday

Meows from Mudpie!

There's never a dull moment at our house. Last week we noticed some scary looking swelling and redness on my Grandpa's arm. Mommy decided to take him to the doctor before the long weekend started, and it's a good thing she did because it was cellulitis. The doctor said it could've gotten out of hand really fast. Grandpa got some strong antibiotics that have made him feel pretty yucky, but thankfully at his follow-up appointment on Tuesday the doctor said it was looking a lot better.

Grandpa is so fragile. This has been his third round of antibiotics for various ailments in just the last 5 weeks. Mommy says if I ever scratched him (which I would never do, I've never scratched anyone) he would probably either spring a leak or fall apart!

In spite of my purrfection, would you believe I got in trouble on Tuesday morning?!?!?! I was looking out the bedroom window, and then had a notion to take a flying leap onto one of Mommy's boxes of Conway records! She was pretty surprised because I don't jump very much anymore, but I was told in no uncertain terms that I needed to get down. I would think she'd be impressed that at nearly 10 years old (and more than a little overweight) I'm still pretty agile!

Mommy makes mistakes too. Yesterday she decided to put in our portable air conditioner since the hots have arrived. In order to get the storm window and ladder in and out of the garage door she had to move Grandpa's rollator out of the way. She came back into the house, closed the garage door from the kitchen, and heard...CRUNCH.

She closed the garage door on the rollator and broke the handlebar off. After unsuccessfully trying to glue and duct tape it back on, she was able to order a replacement handlebar online. For that we're super thankful because Grandpa can't get around without it, but Mommy really beat herself up over doing something so stupid.
