Bloggers Help Paws with a Cause: Melissa Palmer

Today's post is by blogger Melissa A Palmer from Palmer's Picks for Reading.

Emma was a Jack Russell Terrier named after Jane Austen’s character Emma. My Emma thought she was a cat. Most of our cats outweighed her (she was 9 lbs fully grown) so she became one of them—hated dogs but loved cats. At the vet’s office she would try to climb into cat carriers—and they were never our cats. She died of bladder cancer at age 9.

Max is a seal point Ragdoll. He was my first kitten. Max is our alpha male cat. He enjoys sleeping in his cat hammock and breaking into the automatic feeder.

Gizmo is a seal point Ragdoll. Gizmo is a lover cat, not a fighter cat. He loves to snuggle and “hold paws” (he wraps his paws around my fingers).

BooBerry Radley is a blue point Ragdoll. Annually, he visits my school where I am a guest speaker in my friend’s Small Animal Care Agriculture class and I discuss cat ownership. He is very good with the high school students.

Jack Frost Palmer has his own Facebook page. He is a chocolate point Savannah. Savannahs are bred from African Servals so he has some wild blood in him. This is balanced by the chicken flavored liquid Prozac that he has on a daily basis. Jack is the baby of the family and he enjoys that. He loves his stuffed Santa hat toy, hiding my husband’s watch and drinking milk.

Hello Everyone! We have a total of 59 blogs that have gotten together to help raise money for a great cause. There are going to be some awesome prizes up for grabs for people that donate money to the cause. Here is a little about the company that we are raising the money for:

Paws With A Cause® enhances the independence and quality of life for people with disabilities nationally through custom-trained Assistance Dogs.

PAWS® increases awareness of the rights and roles of Assistance Dog teams through education and advocacy. Founded in 1979, Paws With A Cause is dedicated to helping its clients who are challenged by many disabilities, such as Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Seizure Disorders, and Hearing Disorders to name just some. Each of our dogs are trained to meet the specific needs of our clients. Tasks may include opening and closing doors, picking up objects, pulling a wheelchair, turning lights on and off, and alerting a person to particular sounds like a telephone, doorbell, smoke detector and many others. Our dogs change lives by enhancing the independence of our clients. By just opening a door, a dog opens up the world for a person with a disability and your donations will go to making that happen. PAWS thanks you so much for your donation and allowing us to open more doors.
