A Tiger's Tale by Laura Morrigan: Guest Author & Giveaway

A Tiger's Tale

A few of my favorite words and why I love them.

Some are obscure, others even arcane but the words on this list are few of my favorites (even if I can’t readily spell them).

I like words that sound like what they mean (There’s a word for this, isn’t there?)

excoriate- to scathingly criticize

cacophony- loud, discordant noise

skullduggery- underhanded trickery

nebulous- hazy, ill-defined

To name a few.

Also, (not surprisingly) I like adjectives with roots in the animal kingdom.

vulpine- foxlike

porcine- piggish

caprine- goat-like

corvine- of, like or pertaining to crows or ravens

leonine-  lions

chelonian- tortoise/turtle-like

Words I enjoy saying but can’t spell- even with spellcheck.

denouement- the climax and resolution of a story.

Humuhumunukunukuapua`a- reef trigger fish. This is the

Hawaiian name which translates to “triggerfish with a snout

like a pig” but humuhumunukunukuapua’a is more fun to say.

And let’s not forget some words that have no true synonyms!

defenestrate- to toss someone or something out a window.

Sisyphean- a never-ending, grueling task.

nepenthe- a potion capable banishing sorrow and grief.

So... what are your favorites??

*************************

Blurb: When a normally mellow tiger at a rescue facility trees a terrified vet, animal behaviorist Grace Wilde needs to use her psychic ability to get to the root of the problem….

A tiger can’t change his stripes—but if his behavior changes suddenly, there’s a reason. So when even-tempered Boris the Siberian tiger goes into attack mode, Grace knows there’s more to the story. Something is agitating the big cat. As she uses her telepathic ability to calm the tiger, she realizes he has witnessed a theft—not of something but of someone. A teenaged volunteer at the animal rescue facility has been taken…kidnapped.

The problem is Brooke Ligner’s parents believe their troubled daughter ran away and Grace can’t exactly reveal her source. Even though sexy cop Kai Duncan is aware of Grace’s secret ability, he can’t initiate an investigation based on the word of a tiger. Now, as Grace searches for solid clues to rescue the missing teen, it’s the human predators she’ll need to watch out for….

Giveaway: Leave a comment by noon eastern on Friday, May 9th for the chance to win a paperback copy of A Tiger's Tale. (US entries only, please.)

I love the sound of this book, I also love the cover. I also like cacophony, the word fits its description. My mother always used rankle-to irritate, and with 4 kids running around the house, she used it often, lol.

I love mysteries, especially those with animals involved. They add an extra warmth and interest to the story line.

Rankle's a great one, Debbie! Makes me think of a grumpy cat with rumpled fur.

What a marvelous collection of words! Onomatopoeia is the word you are looking for--words that sounds like what they are. It's such fun to have really fun words roll around in your mouth as you say them, isn't it?
This book sounds great. I look forward to reading it.

One of my favorites is obfuscation! I don't think it has any roots in the animal world. Thanks for the chance to win!
