Recharging #PetPhotoFails

Meows from Mudpie!

Thank you for joining us for this month's edition of the Pet Photo Fails blog hop!

Mommy will be leaving me for a few hours today for her aunt's funeral. We spend so much time together now that it's just the two of us I don't know who misses who more when she has to leave the house! We're completely codependent on each other.

Mommy snapped this picture after we got home from the vet last Friday and I collapsed from utter exhaustion. (After all, I didn't get nearly enough sleep the night before when she drugged me!)

Once she looked at the picture she started laughing hysterically because it looks like my butt is plugged into the extension cord!

That's my blooper...let's see yours!

The Friday From Hades #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

It seems like lately I constantly have a vet horror story to share but this one just might take the cake.

The recheck of my right ear was scheduled for Friday afternoon. Since I'm such a big girl the vet wanted me to have a larger dose of Gabapentin (100 mg) the night before and again 2 hours prior to the appointment, so Mommy planned for midnight and noon.

Mommy slipped the capsule into my squeezie at midnight, and by 1am as she was getting ready for bed I started acting like I hadn't eaten in a week. She had a feeling that would continue most of the night so she brought a can of Fancy Feast to bed with us so she wouldn't have to get up!

Nope - by 2am I was out cold. I was so out of it I'm pretty sure I visited Mars. I woke up at 6 for a drink of water and Mommy discovered I had lost control of my bladder on the pillow :( She got up to clean things up and I promptly went back to sleep on my blanket on the couch...where I again lost control of my bladder. I woke up at 8, used my litter box (thankfully), and ate 2 bowls of food, then went back to sleep again. Then I had another bowl of food at 9:30 and straight back to dream land. Usually by that time of the morning I'm parked by my sunny door for the day.

Mommy told me I had the best sleep of my life and she got none! As soon as the vet opened she contacted them to let them know how I reacted because she was not going to give me another 100 mg dose again so soon. They suggested 50 mg, which she agreed to.

I had to use the AC vent to cool off my body...and my temper!

Unfortunately, 50 mg wasn't enough and I was a terror as they worked on my ears. (I got so upset I even peed on the exam table!) And my ears are no better. The right one is still full of wax (so much the vet can't even see my ear canal!), and now the left one is too! For some reason I'm producing copious amounts of wax and can't get it out. The working theory is allergies, which makes sense because I've had ear trouble for a few years now especially in the spring and summer, but why is it so much worse this year? I can't have steroids because that would risk my diabetes coming back, and I can't do food trials to see if it's a food allergy because of my kidneys.

So for the next 2 weeks Mommy has to now clean BOTH ears every 48 hours. Fun times.

I have to admit that I do love my vet, and she loves me. She told me I have a beautiful face, and she swooned when she walked in the room and saw that I had my paw in Mommy's hand for comfort.

On top of everything else Mommy got a text 5 minutes before my appointment letting her know an aunt had unexpectedly passed away, so it was one nightmare of a day.

3. I shut down in a room full of strangers.

4. If I opened a restaurant, it would be called Mudpie's Mochas and would serve coffee and pie in a cat cafe setting.

Feline Friday: Today is National Drive-Thru Day

Meows from Mudpie!

I'm vet bound for an ear check this afternoon (send help!) but today I'm remembering a vet visit from a few years ago. Ironically, that one was to check my ears too!

On the way home Mommy decided to stop at the bank. She didn't want to leave me alone in the car while she went inside so we used the drive-thru! I took the opportunity to ask the teller about opening a squeezie account. He said something about needing ID, a Social Security Number, and a minimum opening deposit amount, none of which I had.

Oh well, I tried to find a way to support myself and it didn't work out. Good thing I can always depend on Mommy!

How I Deal with Thunderboomers

Meows from Mudpie!

I know lots of kitties are petrified of the July 4th boomers.

Me?

Mommy snapped this picture of me on July 3, the night of our town fireworks. As the pounding went on outside I was sound asleep in my cat tree by the window!

I'm a very brave tortie.

So Much Love #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

The other day I wanted to check out the front door again so Mommy came over to open it for me. She's old now (LOL) and didn't want to stand there while I did my sniffing, so she sat down on the floor next to me. That's when I decided I didn't want to look out after all, I wanted to climb onto her lap for some loving.

She swooned. I have that effect on her.

1. A quickly draining cell phone battery is a first world problem I have. My phone is an Android from 2019 and I've already replaced the battery once to extend the life of the phone. Now the replacement battery is gasping for breath.

2. I'll never understand why so many people enjoy pools, beaches and swimming. Maybe I'm a prude but I find the thoughts of being half clothed around total strangers to be rather gross. Not to mention who knows what's been going on in the water...

3. My sense of humor would be best described as sarcastic.

4. I think schools should teach common sense. It's obviously seriously lacking.

Feline Friday Flashback: Tara the Exhibitionist

Meows from Mudpie!

It's been a long time since we shared this super cute flashback so with summer in full swing we thought it might make new (and old) readers smile.

Angel Tara had very thick fur (same as me) and suffered terribly in the summer. Mommy would brush enough fur out of her on a regular basis to make another cat (again, same as me!) but she would still lie around the house prostrate from the heat.

The following photos are a few of our favorites of Tara. Mommy kept a small desk fan near her at all times, and one day she looked over to see her back legs straddling the fan, her little hips moving as it turned back and forth. If only we had video of this absolutely priceless moment!!!

My, what a little exhibitionist she was!

National Hot Dog Day with a Friend

Meows from Mudpie!

Today is National Hot Dog Day so Mommy pulled out a cute little stuffie of a doxie dressed as a wiener made by Annalee Dolls, a popular manufacturer of dolls in New Hampshire. Did you know that Mommy's favorite breed of dog is the dachshund? I used to wonder if I might end up having to live with one someday, but Mommy says she doesn't have the energy for a dog anymore. Kitties are much more her speed!

It's hard to tell but as Mommy snapped this picture I was giving the little guy a lick. He didn't taste very good.

My Grandpa LOVED hot dogs. He used to say that in his younger days he would eat several cold hot dogs for lunch each day! Even in later years anytime Mommy didn't know what to have for dinner he would ask for a hot dog. She hasn't had one since he's been gone. Not because it would make her sad, but because she's not that big of a hot dog fan herself!

Road Pizza??? #SundaySelfie

Meows from Mudpie!

Last weekend Mommy put the screen on our front door. We haven't used it in years because of the traffic noise on our street, but Mommy figured it's worth putting up with some noise to get a north wind coming into the house.

It took me several days to notice but I finally did, and yesterday Mommy held the door open for me a few inches like she does at the side door. I liked it so she opened the door a bit wider...and I started to jump out! She had to grab me!

Then she asked if I wanted to become road pizza. I know she loves pizza but road pizza doesn't sound like a good thing. I decided to just snap my selfie for the week instead.

1. If I were to start a museum, it would be a museum of cat collectibles.

2. If I see 90 plus degree temperatures on my television screen one more time I am going to lose my mind.

3. How I could get a mouse to live in my bedroom is the strangest thing I believed as a child. I once asked my Dad if he could cut a little hole (like you see in cartoons) in the wall of my room so that a mouse would move in.

4. If my life had a mascot, it would be a coffee drinking cat.

The theme of June's CatLadyBox was Passport to Purradise...here's what was inside!

Featured Cat Lady Artist:
KilkennyCat Art

Salty Cat Club Tee:
The only kind of beach club I would ever join! Absolutely adorable design.

Cat Lady Visor:
I'm so happy visors are making a comeback! Full baseball hats are way too hot this time of year.

Cat Lady Luggage Tags:

I don't travel, don't even own any luggage, so I'll need to find another way to use these darling tags. One of the many things I love about CLB items is the packaging. Look at the sweet little paw that held the card in place!

Kitty Cat Ice Cube Mold:
This summer I subscribed to the Panera Sip Club using a 3 month promotion, so I've been drinking tons of iced coffee. I'm so excited to add some cat shaped ice cubes to my glass!

Surfboard Cat Mat:
Such a cute design for a cat mat. I don't know, does Mudpie seem the beach bum type to you?

Tara & Truffles...Forever Loved, Forever Missed

Today marks the 11th anniversary of the day my baby girl Truffles flew off to the bridge, and the 13th anniversary of the day her big sister Tara paved the way before her.

It goes without saying this is the hardest day of the year for me. Comprehending the tragic set of circumstances that took Truffles from me far before her time is something I will always struggle with, and most likely something I will never be able to accept. She deserved so much more from life. And the fact that I lost them both on the same day two years apart makes me wish I could scratch this date right off the calendar.

In honor of my precious girls, please give your own fur babies a little something special today. Maybe an extra hug or kiss, a few more minutes of play or cuddle time, extra treats wouldn't hurt either.

Our time together is so fleeting; their fragile lives all too short. Never miss an opportunity to show them how much they're loved.

Happy 250th Birthday, America!!!

And now our weekly answers for the Friendly Fill-Ins challenge, hosted by 15andmeowing and Four-Legged Furballs!

1. I tend to forget to water my few houseplants. That's probably why they don't live very long! I'm a plant murderer.

2. I celebrate the 4th of July by watching fireworks. I can see them good enough from my living room window :)

3. I was a fan of cats before they became popular. (I couldn't think of anything else here, but cats have definitely grown in popularity in recent years!)

4. I see new tires in my future. My left front tire has had a slow leak for years and I would need to add air a couple times a year. Now even with a portable tire inflator the low tire pressure light won't turn off. The tread isn't looking great either. I guess I can't complain too much, they are nearly 10 years old.

Feline Friday: Threats Work!

Meows from Mudpie!

Before Mommy got up Wednesday morning I did my number twos in the litter box...and let's just say there was a strong resemblance to chocolate pudding.

After she cleaned it up I started making more trips to the litter box, but peeing this time. Mommy counted at least 12 times, and a couple times I'm embarrassed to say I just squatted on the floor.

This same thing happened back in January when I was having some tummy troubles, but Mommy still started to worry I might be developing a UTI. She told me if things didn't improve by early afternoon she was going to contact the vet to see if she could drop off a urine sample. With the holiday weekend coming up she wasn't going to take any chances.

Right around noon I finally settled down and took a long nap in the kitchen, and when I woke up I was perfectly fine! I've pottied normally ever since.

Geez Mommy, you didn't need to threaten me! Take a chill pill!

(Mommy reminded me that the days surrounding July 4th are not the time to tell her to calm down. There's been way too much tragedy in this house around the Independence Day holiday over the years so she's always even more on edge than usual.)

Summer Lovin'

Mommy here!

This is a horrible picture, but such a sweet moment I had to share.

I decided to run my weekly errands yesterday morning so I wouldn't have to go out into the depths of Hell the next few days.

It only took a couple hours, but that's an eternity away from Mudpie, so when I got home I sat on the living room floor to give her lots of kisses. I was pretty worn out so on a whim I decided to lie down on the floor to see what she would do.

She curled up beside me, put her head on my shoulder, and promptly dozed off! She even started snoring!

We stayed that way for probably a half hour, and while my back was breaking on the hard floor, I wouldn't have moved for anything in the world. It's way too hot for us to cuddle the way we do the rest of the year, but we still found a way to be close.

I know most people would probably say the same thing about their pet, but I swear she is the sweetest, most loving cat that ever lived.
