September Retro Country Rewind #MewsicMovesMe

This spring we premiered our new mewsic feature "Retro Country Rewind," a look back at favorite songs that hit #1 during that month from 30, 35, 40 plus years ago. We were so happy that you guys seemed to enjoy it! Now let's take a look at September for this freebie week in the Mewsic Moves Me blog hop...

40 Years Ago - 1979, I May Never Get to Heaven, Conway Twitty

It's no secret this is my all-time favorite song of Conway's, and it went to the top of the charts 40 years ago yesterday (on my birthday!).

This song was recorded by numerous artists, even Aretha Franklin, but ONLY Conway took it to #1...

35 Years Ago - 1984, Let's Fall To Pieces Together, George Strait

35 Years Ago - 1984, You're Gettin' To Me Again, Jim Glaser

30 Years Ago - 1989, I Wonder Do You Think Of Me, Keith Whitley

The first of two posthumous number ones for Whitley, who died on May 9, 1989.

We hope you enjoyed our choices this week!

Good memories. I don’t even listen to today’s “country” music.

Melissa & Mudpie,

I remember Tiwtty's #1 hit. George Strait's song I can't say I know. Country mewsic isn't really my thing but as I've said before I have an appreciation for the old sound. Jim Glaser had a nice voice. I'm not sure that I remember 'You're Getting' To Me Again' but I liked it. I do recall Glaser but I'm not super familiar with his mewsic. There seems to be something that he did that I liked but darn if I can't remember. Did you know that he passed away in April? Keith Whitley is new2me but oh my he's been gone along time. Thanks for sharing your choice song picks on the 4M dance floor, my friend. Have a boogietastic week!

Great songs! I recognize some as having been inspiration to the new artists I follow. :) Thanks for the dance - have a great week! :)

Maybe it's just me but the George Strait song is the only one I'd truly classify as country so I guess that would be my fave.

As always, way to go, Conway! And my goodness, it had been years since I heard George Strait. That was a walk down memory lane. Purrs and happy Monday!

I was just thinking of you last night. I am reading Randy Travis' memoir and he writes about how Conway chose to let him be the last act instead of COnway, very nice guy.
