Wordy Wednesday: Weary of Water Woes

Meows from Mudpie!

You wouldn't believe the day I had on Monday.

My pizza box in the kitchen was picked up. My litter box in the bathroom was moved. My home was invaded.

It all started last week when Mommy fought with the bathroom sink for days. It alternated between being completely clogged and flowing freely but backing up into the bathtub. By Friday night she realized she needed help.

Saturday morning the plumber came and as soon as he saw the original pipes in our early 1950s house he was afraid everything was going to break, especially the pipes in the basement. He decided to try taking the pipe under the sink apart...which broke as soon as he applied a little pressure to it. Our sink was still standing but all the guts fell out.

The only thing we could do at that point was replace the sink, the pipes under the sink, and the pipes in the basement. At first the plumber didn't think he would be able to take on the project until the Monday after Thanksgiving (!!!) but he was able to shuffle his schedule around and come first thing Monday morning. It ended up taking most of the day, but we're now the proud owners of brand new PVC piping which will hopefully last until long after we're gone. (Inside the old pipes we found two clogs that started this whole mess. They were NASTY! Like two ginormous hairballs.)

This was not what Mommy needed on top of worrying about the main drain line likely having to be replaced in the spring! Things have gotten so bad with our constant plumbing issues that she jokes she needs to marry a plumber.

It can't be this one though...he didn't seem to be a cat guy! He didn't pay any attention to me so I kept my distance until it was over.

Dear Mudpie, this is both good news and awful news. We'll start with a really awful and that's that the plumber is not a cat person. But that's his loss. The other awful news is all that plumbing had to be done when your mom wasn't expecting any of that. But the good news is it's done more quickly than thought at first. And I'm sure that those were not your hair balls that were stuck in the pipes.

Poor, Mudpie! At least Mommy won’t have to worry about the pipes inside the house. Hopefully your things got put back where you like them. ;-)

Ugh! I don't like when things change in my house either, Mudpie. Hopefully all your water problems will get fixed soon. ~Ernie

Wow, that sounds like AN EVENT! I'm glad you got it fixed, but what a hassle and expense!

I'm glad you got that sink fixed, but plumbing issues are never fun and they are very expensive to fix.

Have a purrfect day, Mudpie. My best to your mom. ♥

Good for you for leaving him alone, Mudpie! When I've had to call in a professional, one year Bounce and Pounce tried to unlace his boots, and the other time Mogwai climbed up in my face and yowled until I went out to SEE where she and her sisters had left messes in the path he'd use to walk back out to the gate. Since then I've done my own plumbing. I don't look forward to the next situation that requires professional help.

Then there was the time Bisquit, who didn't mind visitors as long as they admired HER, managed to lay a delivery man out flat under a large heavy box...for her point of view, a proper position for a purr-and-cuddle session!

So far I've been able to avoid bringing anyone who'd have to work around Serena.

That sounds awful. I am sure there are some cat loving plumbers out there somewhere.

We're glad you got it all fixed up though, it would have surely gotten worse...and messy.

We are sorry to hear that happened, Mudpie and Mom Melissa, but we are glad it got fixed now.

Whoa! Expensive job for right before the holidays. It's a good thing MP didn't rub on one of the pipes earlier and bust them.
