Meows from Mudpie!
By now you've probably heard about the catastrophic flooding that hit our home state of Vermont on Monday. Many towns across every corner of the state, even the capital city which is still under water as we type this, were inundated with 5-9 inches of rain.
I'm relieved to say that in our area we only got 2". Much more was predicted, and Mommy was having a meltdown all weekend worrying about the basement flooding or the sump pump failing or the washing machine filling up with water again. To say she was a basket case is an understatement.
This is the biggest natural disaster to hit our state since Hurricane Irene in August 2011 (before I was born!) Before that was the Great Vermont Flood of 1927, which Mommy's grandparents lived through.
Then, in the midst of the storm, Mommy had to take Grandpa to an eye doctor appointment Monday afternoon. Just minutes after leaving the house she ran over a little vole. He was so small, and walking across the road so slowly, she didn't even realize it was an animal until it was too late to slam on the brakes. She swerved but not enough to avoid hitting him. She was absolutely heartbroken and can't stop thinking about it. She says he was just out there innocently living his life, and she snuffed it out.
I told her she's being way to hard on herself. If he'd crossed my path I would've taken him out too!

Mudpie, we humans usually do feel pretty sorrowful after having an accident like that. He would have been perfect for you to get but not so much for under your mommy's tires. We're glad to hear that you're not exactly dry but that you are high. When these disasters hit it's a horrible thing.
Not many humans care about a vole, Mudpie. I think yours is special, and probably going through some sort of reaction to the floods. Glad youall are safe, anyway.
I have been worrying about you with that flooding. Glad your area didn't get much. I know exactly how your mom feels because I hit a chipmunk Saturday morning. XO

Knowing you lived in Vermont, we've had paws together for you all. Am glad it has not been too bad, though am reading more is on the way ~ will continue to hope and pray for your safety, blessings to all.

I'm sure glad you are okay. I was about to email you to see how you were doing but then I saw your post. Tell your Mom not to beat herself up, she would never do that on purpose. Hugs.
We saw the news about all the floods in Vermont. We are glad you and your Mom are ok but send purrayers to all the humas and animals in Vermont.
Our huMom always feels bad if she hits an animal - like your Mom it doesn't have to be a pet, just anything - including if a bird flies into the side of the car or a squirrel decides to go the wrong way. We always say a purrayer for that too.
We are purring for everyone who is affected by the floods; so scary.
Any animal that is hurt by a car is a sad thing, and yet sometimes unavoidable.
Tell you Meowmy that we understand how she feels.

I'm glad you and your mom have come through the rain okay, but so sorry to hear it has caused so much trouble for so many in that area. Sometimes sad accidents happen; it was not your fault and I hope you will better soon.
