Three Times A Tortie

Mudpie gets embarrassed talking about it, but she has a bit of an online romance going on. His name is Bear, and he's one of the two feline stars of the Momma Kat and Her Bear Cat blog. He loves torties in general, but he loved Mudpie first, and he regularly sings about her while he's bathing: Three Times A Tortie, sung to the tune of Three Times A Lady.

The theme of this week's Mewsic Moves Me blog hop is songs with numbers in the title, so naturally Three Times A Lady was the first song that came to mind. Bear and his sweet momma Katherine had no way of knowing it, but Three Times A Lady has long been one of my favorite songs. Not the original Lionel Richie version, but Conway's country cover of the song, one of the many times he took a well-known pop song and turned it into a country smash.

My guy was known for recording some pretty steamy stuff - Rolling Stone magazine even wrote that he had "a cannon full of songs about getting horizontal" - but I think this is his sexiest song voice-wise. The "I love you baby" he whispers at the very end nearly does me in.

Moving on to other songs with numbers in the title, Conway's 5th #1 record from 1970...

...and a cut from his posthumously released 1993 album, Final Touches.

No particular reason why, but this has always been one of my all-time favorite songs...

...and this is probably my dad's all-time favorite song.

In 1991 I got to see Lorrie Morgan opening for Ricky Van Shelton at the Champlain Valley Fair in Essex Junction, Vermont. My mom and I were there to see Ricky; my dad was there to see Lorrie.

1991 was apparently a good concert year for me. Not only did I see Alabama with Clint Black in Lake Placid, New York, I got to meet the band backstage too!

1991 wasn't a perfect concert year though. In November Conway came to Glens Falls, NY, and I wanted to go desperately but my parents didn't want to risk the long drive in the winter. There was no way of knowing it at the time, but it would end up being the last chance I would ever have to see him...the one I wanted to see more than anyone else. Decades later I still regularly remind them of that too. If I'd been of driving age I would've risked life and limb in a raging blizzard to get to him.

Do you have a favorite song with a number in the title?
Do you have a favorite among my choices?

Melissa & Mocha,

Ahhh, that's so sweet Mocha has such a Romeo who likes to sing to her! :D I used The Commodores'"Three Times a Lady" in my line up. I knew Conway covered the song in my digging around and am happy that you decided to share it today. He does a good job covering such the pop hit. I hadn't heard the other two Twitty songs before today. WOW, TG Shepperd...now I haven't heard that name in awhile. :) How cool you got to meet the band members from Alabama! I do recognize "40 Hour Week". Alabama got a lot of air time on local pop radio stations in the mid-80s when they released this song, not to mention one of my co-workers had a big thing for the group. Thanks for the boogie & for joining the 4M gang on the dance floor!

Bear sings the purrfect song for Mudpie! Three Times A Lady works well for her, too! The only song I can think of is "Knock Three Times (on the celiling if you want me..but that's more about the housekeeper telling me about food..!!) - Tom x

Mudpie, that Bear is pretty hot, isn't he? Kind of crazy, though. I have always loved "One Piece at a Time"--that's one way to get a new car! :)

40-Hour-a-Week by Alabama is such a classic. I have loved that song for eons. Thanks for sharing it. Great songs.

And the award for cutest couple goes to...Mudpie and Bear! These are all such wonderful song choices, as always. I am admittedly a huge fan of Johnny Cash, so I was excited to see one of his among your choices. Have a marvelous Monday, Mudpie and Melissa!

Mudpie and Bear are so cute!! These are nice song choices. Our mom grew up on country music, especially Johnny Cash.

Good set here! Of course, Conway Twitty is always a great addition, and the Johnny Cash song always breaks me up. The others are good, too!

Mudpie, I can understand that you like a 'bad boy', but that Bear is a real pistol!

MP, has Bear lent you any of his bazookas yet? He's such a bad boy with a potty mouth and you're so sweet and demure. I guess opposites really attract sometimes.

LADIES! LADIES! There's more than enough of my awesome to go around (Ellie Mae: In this house, we call it FAT!) You two are at the VERY top of my "To all the torties I've loved before" list ... only I hope neither of you ever walk out my door. The loss would be immediate and deeply felt. And I'll have the rest of you know that I'm NOT a bad boy! I'm a Momma's boy with a mind of my own!!! There's a BIG difference! ~Bear Cat

I used to work with a gal who basically thought Conway Twitty was a god. I kid you not.
You country picks were great numbers.
This kitty love saga is so cute!

Thanks for playing along.

Of these, the only ones I knew were the Johnny Cash song (so funny) and Three Times a Lady (although the first time I heard the Conway Twitty version, I have already concluded it is better than Lionel Richie). Of the remainder, I really enjoyed Alabama's tribute to the 40 hour worker. They need all the respect we can muster. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
