July Retro Country Rewind #MewsicMovesMe

Last year we premiered our mewsic feature "Retro Country Rewind," a look back at favorite songs that hit #1 during that month from 30, 35, 40 plus years ago. We have so much fun gathering the songs for it and hope you enjoy our selections.

Let's take a look at July for this freebie week in the Mewsic Moves Me blog hop...

45 Years Ago - 1975, Touch the Hand, Conway Twitty

Swoon...

40 Years Ago - 1980, He Stopped Loving Her Today, George Jones

(Considered by many to be the greatest country song ever written.)

40 Years Ago - 1980, True Love Ways, Mickey Gilley

35 Years Ago - 1985, Love Don't Care (Whose Heart It Breaks), Earl Thomas Conley

30 Years Ago - 1990, The Dance, Garth Brooks

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end, the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd have had to miss the dance

Those lyrics pretty much say it all.

Let us know if you have a favorite this month!

Well, that first tune I thought I never heard, but then I listened a bit more & then it all came back to me. What a lovely song it was, but yet touching. Garth Brooks... no them all. Nice choice my friend. Naturally, "He stopped loving her today"... everybody knows that one... that's a classic to say the least. You've got some great pickins here today.. and wow I knew them all! hahaha Have a great day my friend and please wear your mask, stay healthy and God speed! hugs

M&M,

I don't believe I've heard a single one of these tunes before today. Mikey Gilley's style is more of a match to my ear. When I get a chance I may listen to more of his mewsic. Thanks for sharing the dance floor with us today. Have a boogietastic week!

I will say that I agree (to a degree) with people's opinion of "He Stopped Loving Her Today." Maybe not the absolute best country song of all time, but certainly up there. Good list!

I love The Dance. He Stopped Loving Her Today always makes me sad. It reminds me of how my father loved my mother and stayed single from when she left in 1980 until his death in 2001.

The Dance has always been one of my favorite country songs. I'm not the biggest Garth fan, but that song is everything I believe.

I would have to vote for Love Don't Care. It was upbeat. After George Jones' classic (also the saddest song of all time) and your Conway selection where he sings to the woman ready to leave him, I needed that. The last video didn't play for me. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
