Don't Cry Mudpie #MewsicMovesMe

The theme of this week's Mewsic Moves Me blog hop is...Mewsic Trivia – tell us a piece of mewsic trivia about a song(s) and share it.

I thought I'd present a few fun facts about one of Conway's most beloved songs (and his most successful duet with someone other than Loretta Lynn), Don't Cry Joni with his 16 year old daughter Joni.

Don't Cry Joni is a song Conway wrote while his kids were growing up, and as they describe it today, one they sang around the house as a family. By the time Joni became a teenager she started thinking about following in her father's footsteps and becoming a singer. Conway thought bringing her into the recording studio might provide a bit of encouragement, so he asked her to record the song with him, telling her he would later substitute her voice with a professional singer.

He told her a bit of a fib, because their duet of Don't Cry Joni was released as the "B" side of his #1 single Touch the Hand in 1975. DJs started flipping the record over, fans fell in love with the song, and before long it was climbing the charts. It went on to become his biggest double-sided hit ever selling over 500,000 copies. Interestingly, it was a smash hit in Mexico selling over 100,000 copies there! Even though there's no doubt Conway was an international star, that's a bit of trivia that surprised even me!

Melissa,

Ahh, that's a bit of sweet trivia! Joni is a pretty gal. I can see why this song did so well. But, what I'd like to know is did she follow her daddy in the business or was this the only time for her record a song? Thanks for sharing the dance floor with the 4M crew in the new year, furriends!

That was interesting. Not the first time a "B" side made it big. I had to investigate further (I'm not much of a country fan) and found that Twitty's grandson also has the musical talent gene. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
