July Retro Country Rewind #MewsicMovesMe

This spring we premiered our new mewsic feature "Retro Country Rewind," a look back at favorite songs that hit #1 during that month from 30, 35, 40 plus years ago. We were so happy that you guys seemed to enjoy it! Now let's take a look at July for this freebie week in the Mewsic Moves Me blog hop...(this month's selections aren't in chronological order because Conway comes first, of course.)

35 Years Ago - 1984, Somebody's Needin' Somebody, Conway Twitty

Two things strike me about this video - first, I would give my right arm to be on the receiving end of the ridiculously sexy smile at 1:45, and if you watch through to the very end he reaches down to shake someone's hand (I assume a female fan) and she nearly pulls him off the stage! Who can blame her???

50 Years Ago - 1969, I Love You More Today, Conway Twitty

"We've already done the things he plans to do
So don't be surprised if late at night
I'm in your dreams with you."

Classic Conway...

30 Years Ago - 1989, Cathy's Clown, Reba

Probably my all-time favorite country music video. Reba sure made a beautiful saloon girl.

30 Years Ago - 1989, What's Going On In Your World, George Strait

40 Years Ago - 1979, Amanda, Waylon Jennings

Let us know if you have a favorite this month!

Mum recognizes those people even though she is not a big country music fan.
She has heard some of their music.

Melissa,

What a fun discovery with Reba's cover of Cathy's Clown. She indeed made a pretty saloon gal. I hate that she's had cosmetic surgery over the years. That's always an obvious thing and it's taken away from her natural beauty. Thanks for sharing your choice country songs mix on the 4M dance floor today, my furriend! Have a boogietastic week. ;)

It just doesn't get much better than Conway Twitty or Gorge Strait. While I love Reba, "Cathy's Clown" will always be an Everly Brothers song to me. Have a great week.

They are all good but we are a tad partial to Waylon. That fellow has a voice

Oh wow, I used to listen to Reba McEntire's music all the time when I was kid. "Cathy's Clown" was one of my favorites. This was certainly a walk down memory lane. I hope your Monday is filled with music (especially Conway, of course)!

I love the old country music videos. Did you ever see the Judds Love Can Build a Bridge video?

Our mom grew up on country music. It's hard to believe those songs were so long ago! But then, she's old. MOL

The last one for sure! Now THAT'S a sexy smile! TW's first real BF looked a bit like him and so did the last one. TW actually heard of that song cos Pop has the LP it's on. Reba turned "Cathy's Clown" into a dirge. Someone should have sued.

Mom says she luvs country music. She says, "My fav artists are: Randy Travis, Garth Brooks, Lady Antebellum, Brooks and Dunn, Luke Brian, Alan Jackson, Faith Hill, and Tim McGraw. I've been enjoying the new song "I thought of You" sung by Tim McGraw."

I bet those humans all had pussycats that taught them how to sing. Tee hee hee. Winks.

By far, Reba's Cathy's Clown. As a rock fan, I'm familiar with the Everly Brothers version. Bringing this into the old west was a genius move and Reba (as the cliche goes) "made it her own" and fave the song a whole new intepretation. Both the video and the vocals were just so well done. Second was George Strait - such a sad song, even as he was hoping he could get back with his old flame. Alana ramblinwitham.blogspot.com
